How many of you would admit

I read the manual. Save the last few pages of charts, it's worthless. Honestly. 200 pages of: 'This is how you move the map' 'Monarchy is a different kind of government from Despotism', etc.I've been on these boards for a long time and I still don't know what to think when it comes to you -- FrantzX, December 21, 2001

He's right
Before anyone jumps on him, Yin is not just being pessimistic here; the manual is really not much help. It might be useful for those playing Civ for the very first time but for anyone else it's not much good. I'd try the tutorial to get used to the new game features. You don't need to read about them.Formerly known as Masuro.

These manuals are always purposely non-informative because they want you to buy the strategy guide. Always on a quest for more dollars.
Just like they don't put in Multi-play so you'll shell out another $40 in 6 months for Civ III "GOLD".Leonid

Screw manuals, alls I need is nice spreadsheet with stats, and a reference card for the hotkeys. Of course I don't have either
As to the info we all want, someone on Apolyton will compile it soon... and if they dont, i will when i eventually get the game.
It gets released on the 19th in Australia, only 2 weeks waiting leftI'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Just like the "lack of MP" problems aren't anything to do with the manual either.

Just for the record, the strategy guide isn't much use either. It's just a rehash of the manual, and what IS useful should have been in the manual in the first place. Can't say I'm surprised, but it was in the store, and I got it for the h**l of it.
I'd have loved a thorough reference card. There doesn't seem to be ANY one place where EVERY hotkey, command, and stat is documented. The Civilopedia has always been a great concept. But as others have pointed out, it's not a complete reference, and there's just no substitute for a hardcopy you can hold in your hand.
