yeah, not likely, but if that were the case. No way. And I'd hope Firaxis would be ashamed of themselves

        Expansion pack?

They can keep it. I only plan on buying 1 thing from Firaxis. EVERYTHING should be included. If it isn't, I ain't gonna buy it.

If it can't be done right to start, they don't deserve my money.

It shouldnt be "gold" unless it is complete. This two and three parts of a game stuff is crap. Naked greed.

This is a useless thread (please don't take offense).

This is because even the stupidest companies wouldn't dare release an expansion pack that just includes MP. The *average* player plays SP (many MP players don't want to play Civ MP because it takes too long), and why would they leave out the *clear* majority of players when attempting to sell an expansion?

I'm sorry but the thought is absurd and I don't know what made you think of this. It's more likely that they would leave out MP altogether even in the Xpack than include it exclusively.

But isn't this exactly what happened with civ 2 MPG?

So we know that some people would buy it just for MP. But any gaming company that employs such a cheap strategy does not deserve to get business.

All the civ 2 expansions were really cheap b/c of Microprose. I don't think Firaxis will do the same way. SMACX had a lot of extra stuff that really improved on SMAC. I would expect to get a similar if not better x-pack from Firaxis for Civ 3.

                Let's turn this around

You are Firaxis and you've spent millions on developing this game over many years, plus other games you were developing (e.g. Dinosaurs) have been canned/suspended so you are not delivering much revenue at the moment.

Your flagship product, which has probably 99.X% of people who play it single-player only, is just about finished. The only thing that isn't quite right is the multiplayer stuff.

And Christmas is coming up, with people itching to give or receive a computer game as a present.

Would you release it? You betcha!

Civ2 was released ten years ago when MP was a first person "shoot 'em up" oddity, now it is a standard feature we expect from a new game. Making MP into an add on would be a flagrant rip off, which I for one wouldn't expect from Firaxis. Patching in MP after release isn't ideal either, but I'll take that on the chin so long as they are trying and not just playing the game.

How likely is an expansion-pack that includes MP only?
Can anyone here give one single example of an expansion-pack ever released, that had MP alone included?

Frankly, I dont understand why some of you MP-lovers torment yourself like this. Why? Firaxis have stated clearly, more the one time, that they HAVE extensive plans on including MP. It just that they had to postpone it 6-8 months, until they (most likely) can bundle it together with this expected beefy expansion-pack.

                      Ditto.

Honestly, I think MP is overrated as a selling point on a lot of games. Developers should put more time into building better programmed opponents and skip multiplayer on most titles. Unfortunately I see people posting stuff like "without multiplayer this game doesn't have a chance", which is simply untrue; the gaming press has taken this stance as well for some reason. There are a lot of people (the majority of us, in fact) that buy games simple to play solo.

I absolutely never play multi player. When I look for a computer game, I am looking for a strategy game with a good AI for single player.

Basically, I want to start and stop by my own schedule, stop and mull when I want for as long as I want, quit if I'm way ahead or way behind... and pause whenever the family needs me. Multi-player doesn't offer that.

I wish I could control my CIV urges, but I just can not.

Basically, Firaxis has mesmerized me and can pretty much clean me out as far as purchasing their CIV products are concerned.

                          I will buy anything!

                            no

i'm not going to buy civ3, so an MP expansion pack by itself will be useless. i will buy 1 game intact, not each piece sold separately

If I like civ3 (of course I will) and I hear good things about MP, then I'll most likely buy it. Hopefully, it won't come to that.
