If Civ 3 is going to allow huge maps, I hope that they've dramatically increased the maximum number of cities that can be built. Even with Civ 2's smaller world map 256 cities was not nearly enough (especially on the latest large world maps)

I hope so, especially given the fact that 16 civs will be playing.

How did you set it up?
          Haha, thanks

Actually there are much cooler ones...if you visit the Off-Topic (I don't know if you've ever posted there) You'll see lots of other cool ones.

The map of Europe is from a game of "Diplomacy"...have you ever played it? Well, my avatar is a game that I won playing as Austria-Hungary. I just saved each map and made it into a small animated Gif (Red is Austria Hungary...I had allied victory with Germany - Grey)

LOL I already have a bitmap version of a 256x256 map, I'm going to convert it once I get Civ3. You can send a check to.... JK

Is there a way to convert bmp to civ3 like there was in Call to Power II??

LOL SoulAssassin! If you do actually have a map all planed out, by all means upload it here (after converting to .gif or .jpg) and let us all see it

Im gonna have fun with these big maps, and 16 civs on them too. I found in Civ 2 i ran out of foreign civilizations too quickly, and most games i only have 1 or 2 other civ in the industrial/modern ages. This way, they should last longer Yay!

                I Civ 3
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Boris, just look in the downloads section of Apolyton - there are plenty of World maps that are much more accurate and much larger than the official one.

It can be found at the following address:

Note that there are two world maps on the site - one called "mercator" and one called "earth". The one I was talking about is mercator but they are probably both very good.

I actually modified it a little so that the semi-jungle areas looked more natural. I also extended the north pole to make it impossible to move between the atlantic and the pacific via the north coast of Asia and North America. I thought this was more realistic since they are always frozen up and unavigable for normal boats.

                            NOTE TO ALL :

hello everyone, im still lingering around if you remember me, if you do its probably "what does this idiot have to say".

Well this post is a serious one, first i would like to send my greivences to any who might have lost a loved one or dear friend in the events of september 11th.

Secondly i would like to say i cant wait for Civ 3.

I will take part in creating a Very accurate world map using the largest scale. With the new improvments to the map editor i should be able to create an impressive simulation of real world features and terrain. so if there are any scenario makers out there that dont have the time to make a map or just want to compare i recomend at least glancing at mine, you wont be dissapointed.

Ill Be using primarily National Geographic's Atlas of the World Revised 6th edition and secondarily Peters atlas of the world for information.
