  • The Forbidden Palace

Whilst watching the pre-release video, I noticed a screen with a Domestic advisor pop up box which referred to 'The Forbidden Palace' (difficult to see, look at the screenshot below). It would appear to be a wonder of some description, although I wonder what it does...

I shall try again, the JPG compression has distorted it so as to make it unreadable. Here it is again as a bmp (you will have to download and display it)

The Forbidden Palace is in China. It was used both in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The largest group of wooden structures, I believe.

      It's in Beijing.

        You are awesome Harrison!

I think that's just the name for the capitol palace.
To us, it is the BEAST.

The black text is pretty much unreadable, but the "link" under it says clearly "Forbidden Palace".

perhaps it is a scenario where you get to live out the movie 'the last emperor of china'

              sounds fun.

Actually, it's a small wonder. Once you have six cities, you can build a forbidden palace, which essentially acts like a second palace in terms of reducing corruption in your empire. It allows you to better deal with far-flung empires across a large territory without requiring you to constantly move your capitol.

Awesome, a FORBIDDEN palace no less, sounds spooky!
There was some speculation on what this could possibly be in Ribannah's wonders of the world thread. Thanks for the insight Dan!

Useful when you are living on two continents!

When I got too large I normally chanegd to Communism or Democracy.

                        I really like this option.

This gives some small hope that Despotism, Monarchy and Republic will actually be useful later into the game.

I was afraid that in the end it would all come down to Democracy or Communism:

This is actually TOO easy. Looks like every civilization will have a Forbidden Palace. It should probably be very expensive and/or have a disadvantage and/or have another prerequisite, not just 6 cities. In a short time everybody will have 6 cities.

Yes, but will everybody invest time in building such a wonder? Theres so many strong mutually exclusive priorities that one is forced to choose between. And most probably you are pressed for time and resources. The answer is that some will build this mini-wonder as soon as possible, while some will down-prioritize it - or even ignore it.
