Whilst watching the pre-release video, I noticed a screen with a Domestic advisor pop up box which referred to 'The Forbidden Palace' (difficult to see, look at the screenshot below). It would appear to be a wonder of some description, although I wonder what it does...

The Forbidden Palace is in China. It was used both in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The largest group of wooden structures, I believe.
It's in Beijing.(\__/) 07/07/1937 - Never forget

Actually, it's a small wonder. Once you have six cities, you can build a forbidden palace, which essentially acts like a second palace in terms of reducing corruption in your empire. It allows you to better deal with far-flung empires across a large territory without requiring you to constantly move your capitol.

This gives some small hope that Despotism, Monarchy and Republic will actually be useful later into the game.
I was afraid that in the end it would all come down to Democracy or Communism:

This is actually TOO easy. Looks like every civilization will have a Forbidden Palace. It should probably be very expensive and/or have a disadvantage and/or have another prerequisite, not just 6 cities. In a short time everybody will have 6 cities. Now, if I ask myself: Who profits from a War against Iraq?, the answer is: Israel. -Prof. Rudolf Burger, Austrian Academy of Arts
