thank god the crcked version didn't send any info to micro$hit.

Since MS has given hardware companies (to allow driver construction) two builds that they call candidates for final release, they are not necessarily final release. So, the copy of XP that you have is obviously pirated and may not be the final product. Hey no complaints from me, but all I got is say since it is not finished yet and all you got was a crack, whose to say that MS is to blame for your problems. It could be the person that cracked it or how you installed it. Or it could be that the build you got is the one MS will not choose to use.

Any way, all of this is besides the point. The point is that many people will switch. And probably should if they are using the 95/98/ME line of OS. So Firaxis' games must be able to be played on this platform, which I would assume they would be able to.

Firaxis will coertainly support XP, that is a certainty. It would be a suicide that they don't support a current and in future popular OS.

But on a personal note, I don't see what are the obvious advantages of win XP. It is more stable, but I had my win 98 running happily for 2.5 years now without reinstalling, and it is fine for domestic use, I am sure.

Plus XP personal edition doesn't support twin monitor use (if you have a PCI and AGP video card, and XP will be in the range of 150 pounds and over!!!

Maybe one day when I will get a new PC in a few years, I will get XP's successor on it, but before that, I see it just as a waste of money.

the reason for upgrading to xp is because 1 it runs without dos, making it more stable and loading faster, as well as improving the performance of games 2 it is loaded with features 3 im using 98..

How on earth can Firaxis code in support for a system that isn't even finalised yet? Get real, people. Either XP will be backward compatible and cope with code designed for older systems or it won't. Either way its not Firaxis that will be at fault. If sales go well they could always decide to do an XP specific version in due course, the way Civ 1 was adapted for Windows.

I mean it's a 2d game. How on earth does it require 300 MHz?
The only thing i can think of is the alogrithm that the AI uses to calculate each turn. This might mean that the AI is quite complex!

All the companies I deal with have been testing their current production/release products on XP. They have base versions from M$. M$ isn't sneaking this one out like it did with the last 2. They are actually advertising it more than the last 2 releases (98se & ME).

Many, that would be an advisor to look at. I would not complain about Sheila Carvalho either. How come you do not have anything like that in Portugal?

Nemo I also have been told that game company like Firaxis would have XP. The people who build my computer (DSI) have told me which windows version is OK to run even before it is out. BTW DSI is listed on the Windows update.

I don't like those requirements. It's ok, that it doesn't need the best PC in the world, but better games need better PCs. I know Civ is Civ, it doesn't NEED speed and RAM, but they could make much better game with minimum req. at least 64 MB RAM.
Ok, what are the optimum performance requirements and what PC is needed for a "you can't play better" game? That's what really interests me.

It's certain that Civilization series are not system resources demanded games as DOOM etc. I think P2-300 is very low now, though my systems are all outdated, but they are still K6/2-500 and P3-550. RAM is so cheap now, there is absolute no excuse to still use a system with only 64MB RAM. Spending merely $25, you can get 256MB RAM and boost your system performance. I think they should give you choice for 800X600, 1024X768, and 1280X1024. As I know 19" monitors are popular in my friends, I hope they can provide high resolution also. I think some cheap 19" monitors are good buy now such as LG995E, though it is not pure flat or Trinitron, but the color is also vivid and text is very clear, it also has TCO99 and the price is only about $250. Zealot, you really should upgrade your monitor, you can tell ur parents this little 14" hell is giving out more radiation than a new 19" monitor and it's damaging my eyes badly!

I'm on a 19" monitor right now and 1280x1024 is actually too low. I think they would be wise to include a step up from that to 1600x1200. Of course, for a 17" monitor, 1280x1024 is plenty. Beyond that, it just hurts your eyes.

I even had to buy a glare filter for the monitor myself, because they just DON'T CARE!

I said it today on another thread: Civ 3 for me is only in April 2002.

If you won't make it available fr 800x600, I will never buy the game.
                            1) I don't want a new monitor for several reasons
                            2) Higher resolutions hurt my eyes pretty much, can't work much
Make it possible for 800x600, damn you!

                              This stinks!!!

I run CivII perfectly on my laptop (Pent-166 with 16MB ram). CivIII better be something next to amazing in order to require all that extra upgrade. It better be something more than boring graphics...
