I have to demand a support for 800x600! How can I explain to my parents that I need a new monitor just to play a game?!? After all, a monitor is just a monitor! I didn't play Railroad Tycoon II because of that, but I can live with that.
    But not without CIV III!!!

    Give me support for 800x600!

    Pretty please?
    now, now,
your hard working parents bought you a computer to WORK and not to PLAY GAMES and surf internet for feticeira photos, right?
well you will have to wait until you are old like the rest of us, you work at a crappy job but you can crank out money for new pc (slave wage) or your sh**ty company gives you a laptop to play on while in airport lounges. i am sure i shattered a couple of your illusions, but this really is the crux of the matter

I was "forced" to upgrade my VDU about a year ago because of all the applications and games coming out that expected 800x600 and 1024x768 resolution but, like it or not, that is the current trend in the marketplace. Like with upgrading processor speed, 17" monitors have now been around long enough that you should be able to obtain bargains if you hunt around the second hand market.

        Wierd

I mean it's a 2d game. How on earth does it require 300 MHz?

My main machine is OK, but I'm a bit sad that organizing LANs with my friends will atleast be harder. (we've been playing SMAC and have enough machines for a GOOD game, but now.... )

          What no more win95 support!!!!
          Oh well doesn't really matter
Anything that comes out after 2day I wouldn't expect to run on my PC anyway. Yesterday now that's a whole new story

Just for you to know, I make 21 today... I think that's old enough to do whatever I want...

I'm going to start an internship of 5 months on September/October on a software related company, but I doubt they will give me any hardware at all...

So, when is the news for 800x600 support coming out?

if RAM is the major concern, for the price of the game you can buy 256 MB of PC133 RAM now...

well is that a bargain or what?

Go buy now, and get prepared for the game... there are chaap processors out there (25 -30 £) thet might fit into old socket 7 motherboards... well there are ways to get up to speed with just a little bit of money.

Re: Civ3 system requirements from the infograms website

.but nothing on here seems like it would prevent the majority of people from running civ3 on their system...and really if you have a pentium 166 i think it's about time for you to upgrade your system [/QUOTE]

Have a 266 P2. Just shy of the requirement. Works fine for everything but games, and I'm no hard core gamer. Certainly not likely to upgrade before October.

Good thing game probably won't be released until spring then.

Any way, it probably will still be able to run if you have a decent enough amount of RAM. I was able to run SMAC on my p 100 even though it asked for 166. It ran slow but it still worked. Of course it was fine on my 766.

Actually Windows XP is not going to be very different at all from Windows 2000. XP is using the basic 2k kernel as the basis for the OS system. Sure the interface is going to be different but the code is going to based on 2000.

Now, if Firaxis was not going to support W 2K, then I would be slightly concerned about XP, because yes the kernel for 2K and XP are not based on the 95/98/ME line. But since Firaxis is building the game on 2k computers, there should not be much of a concern about the XP upgrade, at least from what I understand of the newest MS OS.
