    Ahem...

Ever heard of MACHU PICCHU, Horse? Right smack on top...

Besides, if a civ map tile is many miles across, there'd be enough valleys there, should you choose to split hairs.

How about inhabited cities, not tourist traps. Besides, I've read archeological evidence exists that Manch Picchu predates the Incans, so they were really just squaters in an established settlement, not builder of a mountaintop city.

You're right though, 200mile tiles would have plenty of valleys for cities to be founded in, not just pure mountain peaks

What about Lhasa, Tibet? It is not on a peak, but it is certainly in mountainous terrain. There are so many mountains around it that it would certainly be in a "mountain square" in Civ. And it is inhabited!

I don't think Machu picchu is a good example of a city situated at a mountain top. Not that's not located at one, just that it's only 13 square kilometres large, not even the size of a half descent village.

Yes, but AH- do you realize that one mountain in Civ II represented 100 miles of mountains, and in some of those miles there may have been valleys- thus allowing the building of cities in the mountains.

I do agree however that cities built in the mountains should grow very slowly...

Why should I even bother explaining why mountain cities are valid in the context of a Civ game, when the answers are so plainly obvious?

Very helpful, Anunikoba. Spam, spam, spammity spam. The fact that you couldn't have a settler unit and grow at the same time when you'd built your city on a mountain was sufficient deterrent for me.

I think he means cities are more likely to be founded in a valley than on a mountaintop, a fact which is as true as it is irrelevant, for the reasons given above.
