Even if you have a weak civ that you want to see make MA's to fight another civ, you are not helping them, by taking all their money. Better to give it if you think you need to help them. I find you really cannot help them, except to attack their foe.
Cash is the only reason my friend! You need it in order to buy techs from the people you are selling aluminum to. So the cash just goes around for the benefit of everybody. Aluminum is of no use to me if I have a backward civ.

How did you get him to agree to that trade?
those are 2 seperate trades made in the same turn, with the second one involving me trading Osman a tech.
Since the AI was constantly at war with one another and myself, I wanted to try something else instead of gifting/trading resources and lux to the AI to ensure their loyalty of my trading partners.
And since the tech cost was raised so much in that game (was it AU402? I can't remember), I knew I could gift the AI with gpt and get that gold back when I trade them the tech and thus improving relationships and hopefully ensuring the AI doesn't side against me in a MA.
I can't say for sure that it worked since the game ran so slow on my computer, but during the turns I tried that.. my AI trading partners didn't side against me in a MA.
EDIT: and somehow I missed the point of the thread being gpt from resources..
oh well, resources, techs.. it's all gpt from the AI in the end..
Once I got 287gpt for Iron to one civ and the next turn I got 231gpt for oil.

I couldn't help but notice a map in the screenshot that Pea posted looked pretty huge with a zillion city dots on it.
Is there a new map size in PTW? like "Extra Huge" or "Gigantic" ?
As for the trading, I've never gotten a gpt. For some reason, I always end up either doing simple diplomacy or complete warfare. Guess I'm no Machiavelli.
