I am a gread student at the University of Maryland

          I have freinds at Madison

I am the Whip and FA for GS

I would reccomend reading the threads, getting the map (which I will forward to you when I get home) and the save file (someone else will ahve to do that, I don't have it)

I cannot put enough importance on reading the threads

in another week or so, we will find you a more permanent active position (I am thinking of a third controller or an FA) if you want it, or an advisor position if that is more interesting to you (or some new position that might be needed)

Macy - screen shots from last turn sent.

Regarding the save, you should be aware that jon has taken a pledge on behalf of the team regarding fair play. This now applies to you as well. You are to use only the proper method for opening the save - which is from the main screen using load game. Do NOT load from the in game option. There is a load bug that all teams are aware of and everyone is committed to not using. OK?

When the save is sent - jon will PM or e-mail the password to you.

The save will probably be sent around in a couple turns.

There are temples in The Voice and Miller Town. And a granary in the Voice.

We have all techs of the ancient era except for polytheism, currency, constuction, republic, and monarchy.

We are playing Persia - obviously.

We have a border treaty with Gathering Storm to the south. The border runs east-west just below Dissidentville. The road was our early effort at staking out territory and not being closed off at the chokepoint.

The various warriors down south are observers to make sure both parties abide by the treaty.

We have a strong tech trading realationship with GS. They are researching republic which should get us to a govt change before the others.

This was my bio I posted at the intersite DG forum. You will notice that jon and I represent opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to the how much we write.

                    I'm BetaHound.

Or simply Beta. (maybe I should ask Ming to drop the Hound part. Someone keeps calling me 'doggie'. woof).

I joined Apolyton in November for the ptwdg. I am already at 1400 posts, which even surprises me. The PTWDG, ISDG, C3DG, and some pbem's will do it. I almost never visit the OT stuff. I 'watched' Apolyton for well over a year before joining. I have all of rpodos(Theseus), Velocyrix, Arrian strategy stuff printed, re-read many times, and put into practice with many, many games of civ3. I am one of the few folks on Vox Controli, which means you get to provide lots of input. Having the entire strategy group I mentioned above on one team - Gathering Storm - and having them as your neighbours in the ptwdg, well, it made for an interesting start.

I took on the job of getting Apolyton into the ISDG, and dealing with the other sites. A lot of this has gone smoothly. Some stuff did not. I think I should've recruited some help earlier on. But hey, we got here, and I feel a big sense of relief now that the consuls have taken charge. Thank-you to one and all who have supported this game.

Arnelos posted this above which made me chuckle:

"I was raised on strategy games. No joke. My father was a grognard strategy gamer going back to the 60s, so I suppose it's only to be expected that I was indoctrinated from an early age... He has quite the library "

Well, I'm clearly not your Dad, and I didn't start in the 60's, I started in my high school years (70-74). But I was/am a grognard. All the early Avalon Hill games and the Strategy and Tactics stuff. And yes - I have quite the games library, which is probably worth a bit right now. I could not stand any of the D and D stuff - with the university gaming club's back then clearly split into either the wargame or the fantasy camps. C'mon - what do you want to command - a German Panzer Division closing in on Moscow, or gaggle of orcs duking it out with a dragon. Give me a break.

Same with my reading. I love history and science fiction. Fantasy you can toss, thank-you very much.

Dabbled with lots of computer war and strategy games, until of course, Civ3 came along. Then, well , you know ...

In RL I am a director of a social housing department at the municipal level - I manage a sizeable number of managers and staff, and a large portfolio of social/public housing projects. We do a lot of work helping to house the homeless. I have been in this field my entire career - having graduated with a commerce degree in 1980.(after trying engineering and geology).

I also have done a fair bit of sailing in my life, and have taken a year's sabbatical, sailed out the St.Lawrence and down to the Caribbean. That was the late 80's. Also bought and sailed a boat back from Tortola to NYC via Bermuda in the mid-90's. And in 2000 I spent three weeks sailing the Cyclades islands of Greece. I also do a fair bit of adventure and trail hiking.

I'm 46. I'm married, no kids, living in Toronto Canada.

(don't own many though, have a couple of first edition third reichs, have played panzer blitz, played africa corps, and a lot of that generation)

currently O a, getting a collection of Advanced Squad Leader modules as well as picking up the random strategy game (and always lookng out for some of my older favorites (mmm, D-Day))

Some of my faves were 1914 - one of Jim Dunnigan of S&T fame early games. Also Jutland. Anzio. PanzerBlitz of course. And I loved the early Midway game - but traded it away.

I have probably have over 100 games in boxes in the basement.

                            that is great

I ahve played Midway a time or two also

the problem is getting players, I can get players for newwer games like Civ (the boardgame, not the one based on the computer game), Rome, and settlers

and there are ASL groups in the DC area (which I should join)

but I think the other, older games are mostly in basements
