    Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

    • With us shutting down research for a few turns - and getting gold in the democracy deal - we should consider some rush builds. I agree that having the strong treasury will allow us to research at a large per turn deficit - but then again - Lego has offered to subsidize us.

      So, I took a boo at the save and here are some of the rush costs: (updated to next turn - when we will make the decision)

      Resurrection- Marketplace
      Saves 5 turns
      Adds approx 4gpt
      Cost= 120

      Phoenix - Marketplace
      Saves 7 turns
      Adds approx 5gpt
      Cost= 132

      Irony - Marketplace
      Saves 7 turns
      Adds approx 7gpt
      Cost= 140

      Renewal- Aqueduct
      Saves 18 turns
      Adds ??? as city grows
      Cost= 340

      Panama Vox - Harbour
      Saves 7 turns
      Will allow use of sea tiles and city to grow
      Cost= 104

      Eternity - Harbour
      Saves 6 turns
      Will allow use of sea tiles and city to grow
      Cost = 88

      We will have 334 gold to start next turn - plus whatever comes in with the RP democracy deal. Also - the completion of the Seabiscuit and Memory marketplaces will further enhance our gpt.

      As much as I am tempted to do the aqueduct to allow growth beyonf size 6 - I think the first two priorities should be the marketplaces in Irony and Phoenix. They add the most gpt, and that gpt can be accumulated to rush other projects.

      Thoughts?

      • And one other thought. Should we let Hope grow up to size 5 or 6 and then pump out workers. It would bring more tiles under production - and we can get to a point where we will be able to produce a worker in two turns. So - in between, we can work on some other projects.

        • The primary rush build I want is a harbor in Hope for just that reason. That takes almost 300 gold with no shields built up which was why I didn't do it yet. I'd like to pop out this last worker and then rush it once it has a few shields under it's belt. The harbor won't get us to two turn growth (i.e. 5fpt) until electricity, but it will make us able to do 3 turn workers rather than four turn.

          I like the idea of rushing the marketplaces, however there is one thing to consider...if Lego does decide to give us gold to make up for our deficit so that we can go 100% on research (once we enter the next age and figure our our reseach priority) then those markets will essentially just be sitting there for a little while. We will of course need them when we ramp research back down, but I'm not sure we want to rush some buildings that will just sit around. We should probably discuss this a bit more though since it would give us the opportunity to get started on the next improvements sooner.

            Understood. This would argue for the harbors and then the aqueducts - and let the marketplaces come on line when they do.

            • 680ad turn played

              As per Rhoth's orders.

              Couple of issues:

              Got 200 gold from Fritz of ND.
              Got matallurgy from GoW.
              Received RP's offer of 120 gold and +5gpt. Added democracy and returned the deal.

              Memory and Renewal fell into disorder. I compared options - and used the slider (12 gold) to get us back to happiness. I figured it was the worth the growth - and we would have had to seriouslt re-arrange renewal to avoid starvation.

              Did we lose a lux deal??

              Exploration moved 6-9-9.

              And another GS galley has shown up - 8-8 of Hope.

              We are at 534 gold plus 77 gpt.

              • I checked the previous save and compared. The lux deal with Lego for dyes ended this turn - hence our issues. I have sent a note to vondrack but was nor soon enough to catch their turn. Sorry.

                Something we will need to keep track of - maybe we should start a separate thread tracking the luxury deals - and when they start and stop. It would also be good to keep track of all the future lux deals we have in the works.

                • And now that I revisiting the turn in the clarity of day (with no wine to cloud my judgement ), it would appear the better move would have been to use two taxmen in the cities in question, rather than the slider. The slider cost us 13 gold (89 to 76). Using two taxmen, well, I got it to 80 gold. As Lego will likely not have re-sent the dyes this turn, we can play with it next turn and see what works best.

                    That's kind of a bummer. None of us noticed it. Oh well.

                      - Hope grows to size 4, produces worker and back to size 3. Next build to be a harbor.
                      - Change one coastal tile to taxman in Memory (at least until we get Lego's luxury back).
                      - Change gold mountain tile to taxman in Renewal.
                      - Slider to 100% taxes.
                      - VW#1 moves 4

                          Per my orders. Lego sent us dyes so I did not have to mess with the cities.

                          However, while checking out the other deals we had, the 20 turn 4gpt deal we had with RP was up this past turn but did not go away. I clicked on it to get rid of it (since we'd essentially be fleecing them) and both gpt deals went away. I restarted to try to fix it, but it did it again so I chatted with Togas and he will send 5gpt-accepted next turn. In essence we won't lose any turns off the gpt deal, though we will have to send them 5 gold to make up for one extra turn of receiving the gpt deal. If that didn't make sense, trust me it's the only way.

                            • Rhoth - just thinking about the markeplaces again. In a couple of turns -we will be back in the tech race. And it would appear that we may be there for awhile. Would universities be more useful.

                              Or - do market places increase the gold which can be applied to research as well - or do they only increase the cold assigned to 'cash'? If the former - then push on.

                              Otherwise - looks great.

                              • Actually they don't apply cash toward full 100%research, so universities would probably be better. Sorry, I guess I still haven't gotten it into my head that Lego said they would supply us gold to make up for our shortfall when running 100%.
