  • Naming Convention, Global Agreements

I saw the thread about a universal code for naming geography, and was displeased

if we should chose to name things ala espanol, but a majority made up of say 3 other teams have decided to name things Apolyton This, Mingapulco that, Banana this, Triprules that.... we get stuck with crappy, non-roleplay names

for the sake of our team purpose, i ask, shouldnt we disagree with this? Shouldnt we make a point of naming things as roleplay-ish to our cause as possible?

After all, our first language is spanish, not "universal". We should use this language first and foremost whenever possible, naming things included.

So, the other Nations aren't as Cultured and Refined as we are. Let them have their own names for such things, we will continue to have our own names.

And when they come to see the errors of their ways and join our Great Nation, then we will teach them of the proper naming of things.

We will name our own geographic features. This act by the heathen tribes has inspired me to begin a new campain ... not only will we name all of our units, we must begin to produce names for the land and world around us, and we must indentify these features by name when speaking with the heathens.

For example, let us develop a name for the jungle and the oceans and refer to them by name in our letters. And when we develop Mapmaking (and we WILL be the first nation on this planet to do so) let OUR mapmaking terms and names be used by the other nations who learn this skill from us!

Good speech my lord! Let us begin collecting names from regions and rivers first, then we can name our valley's, mountains, forrests, plains, deserts.

it is especially significant to name every minute piece of land, so that should anything like a major event should come to pass, we already know where it happened, instead of naming it after the fact.

                Idea excelente - mis amigos

Shall the Southern Waters be called the Mar De Mediterráneo?
                or Aguas Meridionales (Southern Waters)?

The Mountains separating Pamplona and Madrid - Las montañas del gran Togas (The Mountains of the Great Togas).

                  I like the Togas thing.

but for the Southern Waters... if we simply call them Southern waters (even if its in spanish) i don't think its unique enough. I mean, has Spain called any of its water-masses by cardinal points?

                  [SEMI-RP]
And for that matter, we arent really sure if thats the south. That might be north for all we know. I propose we name it after another great person, or deity possibly.

We need names for our Gods - do we have any?

If you guys bought into the Olympians years ago, when my father proposed same we could use:

Palacio De Poseidon - Poseidon's Palace for the Southern Sea.

Cow Valley would be Valle De la Vaca

Madrid's river: Río del Sol - river of the sun, or Rio de Ninot - the first governor of Madrid.

Madrid's Hills: Colinas alrededor de Madrid - Hills around Madrid

The Northern Jungle: La selva de bárbaros - The Jungle of the Barbarians. Or : La selva extensa del Tamales - The Vast Jungle of the Tamales (for Eta Tamale).

We don't have gods, we do at least need Mysticism to found a religion, so no choice to is left: we have to call our mountains, forests etc to things or items we already know, mostly physical things. Some examples: Mountains: Mountains of the Moon; Tundra: the Frozen Fields; Desert: Barren Lands of (Madrid?); Lands of Luck for a region were we won a battle by luck, or after the king or military leader who led a campaign. Perhaps Togas can provide us with official names of the kings and princes of his family. It can be named after our own señores or the most influential advisors such like to MTA. Regions, forests, mountains, etc. can be called after the first governor of the first city in the region or near the forest, mountain, etc.

[b] But let us wait until we call places to te names of our gods until we have gods and are at a stage to have gods. Remember that we're still a realy small civilization and we are still at the stage that we believe in 'spirits'.

Maybe, this would be a good time to ask how Señor Ninot's name is pronounced. I have always pronounced it in my mind like "Niño".... don't ask me why

Because Rio Niño (forgive the spelling for clarity) sounds very cool; however, I though Rio Tejo (sp?) had been chosen for Madrid's river. I am not sure it stuck, but there are many other rivers out there to choose from if it did.
