why we may have to kiss the Pyramids goodbye

If I've got the teams wrong please correct me but:

Glory of War -- China (militaristic, industrious)
... starts with Warrior Code and Masonry

Gathering Storm -- Egypt (religious, industrious)
... starts with Ceremonial Burial and Masonry

    Legoland -- Carthage (commercial, industrious)
... starts with Alphabet and Masonry

Lux Invicta -- Ottomans (scientific, industrious)
... starts with Bronze Working and Masonry

Vox Controli -- Persia (scientific, industrious)
... starts with Bronze Working and Masonry

Neu Demogyptica -- Arabs (religious, expansionistic)
... starts with Pottery and Ceremonial Burial

Roleplay Team -- Spain (religious, commercial)
... starts with Alphabet and Ceremonial Burial

there is a similiarity among the other teams which we lack, but I'm not gonna tell y'all what it is

Interestingly, the only other team with Alphabet are our "good friends" Legoland. We may be able to dissuade them from trading it if we though it was in the best interest of our two nations to slow other teams along those lines.

Note: almost every team but ours is industrious and will get the faster worker rates we don't. We may need to expend some of our commercial "might" to finance a few more workers early on to make up for this.

Glory of War has an early monopoly on Warrior Code, which they may not trade.

Masonry has little value on the open market. We should be able to get it for a marginal cash output by telling other civs "EVERYONE has Masonry to offer. I can get it from the other civs for HALF that price..."

We left out Neu Dem. They're Arabia. They are expansionist and.... religions? What are their starting techs?

You're absolutely right, I didn't realize so many had Masonry. Expansionist Arabia will start with Pottery and Ceremonial Burial. Won't Glory of War start with Masonry and either Warrior Code or The Wheel? Since at least two civs have everything else, maybe we should be researching one of those?

Since 5 teams have Masonry, we shouldn't pay more than 20 gold for it by trade. Alphabet is worth 50 gold now.

Warrior code is 30 gold worth now and we should research this first. This tech will place us in the path for Monarchy, our Roleplay first indicated gov, and so we'll have an attack force to defend us against barbarians and other civs like GoW.

I think, after Warrior code, we should try to research Writing in order to go for Map Making, and The Lighthouse, which could be build in a future city in a forest spot at the SE from Madrid (it looks as a very good site to have a powerfull coastal city).

We could acquire both Masonry and Pottery + money by trade, offering Alphabet from us.

I think I can agree with astrologix - we want to protect ourselves from the human civs which may be more aggressive, i.e., a good offense is the best defense. Masonry and Pottery will be cheap, and we have advantage of being one of two civs with Alphabet, we may be able to even do a one for two trade.

On the Alphabet issue of making a no trade deal with Legloland, I am against it. We may see a friendly civ without Alphabet early, and we need to use it to our advantage and not bind ourselves in any agreement.
