[OOC]Ooh, you'd so be thrown out of a Californian court... [/OOC]

Okay, bring on the tests, as long as the stubborn ways of the government will not change, I'd might as well have them gotten over with. Consider me defeated. (For now.)

Before they begin however, wouldn't it be a shame if the High Priest had said it was a possibility I was possessed and then it turn out I am not possessed? He says my speech has been lending more to the possibility, so now he's probably pretty sure I am possessed. Let the trials commence, and the system of law prevail over mere guesswork!
EDIT: And let the system of science, no matter how much a crackpot theory of science that this is, prevail over mere guesswork.

And do not forget, soon or ever, that the people shall not be oppressed forever. They will prevail, wether today or in 6000 years.

Lastly, I do not doubt our Great Leader Togas's wisdom on the matter of picking you as High Priest; I know that he knows that you won't be so blindly fundamentalist in the future. Has it ever occured to you that everybody makes mistakes, and maybe you're making one right now with your interpretation of the spirits' talk, if they talk to you? Yes, everybody, even our Great Leader Togas, will make a mistake sooner or later--however, I hope for the good of Spain that Togas's mistake is that of no importance, like what robe to wear or something. Some people make big mistakes, some people make little mistakes, no one makes no mistakes.

    Just some thoughts to ponder.

Ah, I'm glad that we've finally gotten the arguing stage over. The tests will take place at sunset, and the results will be delivered at dawn tommorow. I expect, though, that the tests will prove you innocent, as there would be little point for a possessed one in submitting to the tests if they would just find you guilty anyway.

I know that he knows that you won't be so blindly fundamentalist in the future.
Blindly fundamentalist!? I'm doing my duty in listening to and executing the will of the spirits, nothing more.

Has it ever occured to you that everybody makes mistakes, and maybe you're making one right now with your interpretation of the spirits' talk, if they talk to you?
Please explain how I may be 'misinterpreting' the words of the spirits? They don't actually speak in words, they speak in concepts, and such concepts leave no room for error.

I know quite well that my arguments wouldn't stand up in a court of law, but we don't have courts of law, so that doesn't matter. This is the Role-Play Team, remember?

      btw, why the California reference?

California's just known as a liberal place. I dunno.

So, the tests will take place at sunset, will they? It's 10:08 PM right now where I live...so I guess that means I must stay up until hm. 28CST would equal 4 AM tomorrow...can we not just take the tests now? It's sunset on the pacific coast.

As you wish. Now, we must go down to the river, invoke the aid of the spirits to ensure a truthful result, then hurl you in and observe the results.

            Hurl me in?

I'd expect more that I just swim in. Then again, knowing what has been said, I'd expect more that I be loaded down with lead weights before I go in. However, okay, let's do this.

              Wait...

              Tonight is a cold night...

What if I catch a cold or worse from the coldness of the water?

What if I catch a cold or worse from the coldness of the water?
You'll only be in for a few minutes.

. Then again, knowing what has been said, I'd expect more that I be loaded down with lead weights before I go in.
No, no. Lead weights would corrupt the trial. However, if you swam in, there would be no of tellingif you were actually being demonically aided. Now, down to the river.

                * Francisco Tacticus says a few prayers to the spirits.

                * Two big guards lift Spamish Mitchell by the feet and shoulders and hurl him in.

                * Spamish Mitchell briefly goes under before surfacing, coughing and spluttering, clearly unable to float without swimming.

Okay, it seems you passed the first test, much as I expected. Now, let's move on to the trial by fire.

Well, that was...er. Refreshing. (Not that I'd like any more of it.)

Can I first towel off before having the trial by fire?

                  That reminds me!

                  STOP THE TRIALS!

Since I am still wet from the water test, I won't as easily burn, and then you will declare that I need to be set on fire!!! Let me towel off!

*If you do not follow this logic, try to set a wet stick on fire. See my point?

Oh, yes. Good point. I forgot that I intended to do the fire test first. Oh well...

You can dry yourself in front of the fire before we test you.

I'd hate to put an innocent man to death. It makes people a lot more reluctant to execute the guilty, if it's discovered.

Right, you've had more than enough time to dry yourself off, time for the final test.

                            * Francisco Tacticus picks up a long stick, holds it in the centre of the fire until the end catches fire, then presses it against Spamish Mitchell's arm while two more guards hold him still. He screams and thrashes, and the stick is removed.

Very well, you've passed the other test, too. It would seem that your vision of a squid was merely a delusion. We'll bring you something for the burn, and I apologise that it was necessary to inflict pain, but it had to be done.

At least you'll bring me something for the burn.

I'll say it again, you're not such a hothead as I thought you were--Togas didn't make a mistake after all, you just seem tough to keep people from breaking the religious law. (I don't necessarily agree with all the religious laws, but, on the other hand, that's another matter. Just keep in mind what I said. )

Yes, upon reflection, I decided that were entitled to at least something for the pain inflicted.
