    1990 BC - Farmerville-Barbarville?

If it was not for the barbarians around Farmerville, we might be experiencing a severe population drop-down, seeing lots of our fellow citizens dying from boredom... Angus, though on an extremely important exploration mission, could report seeing nothing but a sea of water to the left, a sea of sand ahead, and a sea of water to his right... Gaul has returned to where he had run into the southern coast for the first time, hopefully venturing eastwards, into less known lands, soon. Conan kept following the coast to the southwest, crossing a river, and MercG returned to the site of the former Illuryian village, intending to chart a small bit of coastal land to the southeast... Plus, our settler expedition, escorted by Mercred, finally reached its destination at the confluence of Westfork and Northfork Rivers, planning to found the city of Red Bricks very soon.

1950 BC - Red Bricks Founded!

In the year of 1950BC, the foundation stones of our fifth city were laid. The city of Red Bricks lies conveniently at the confluence of the Westfork and Northfork Rivers, protected from three sides with their waters. However, with the exception of a relatively tiny strip of grasslands extending towards Farmerville, the immediate vicinity is less than suitable for growing crops... Redbrickers thus immediately started forming a band of workers that will improve the city radius, cutting down the jungle and building roads North to Legopolis and SE to Farmerville.

The Farmerville archer home guard unit engaged the barbarian warrior wandering too close to their city with such a ferocity and determination that the intruder had absolutely no chance to survive. To award their bravery, the Farmerille Archers were promoted to veterans! The other barbarian, noticing the city undefended, could not resist the temptation and apparently closed in for a kill. Unfortunately - for him, that is - he chose a route too close to the position of the Farmerville Archers and will most probably be slain by their arrows prior to actually having a chance to attack the city.

After years of relative boredom, things finally get moving, even if only slowly for the time being. Down in the South, Conan spotted a barbarian warrior, which indicates yet another barbarian camp nearby. Most probably, its destruction will be left to Gaul, approaching the area along the southern coast. Conan shall stick to his planned route that will take him to the West now, back towards Farmerville. Farmevillers could sure use his strong hand to get rid of those pesky barbarians...

Angus, though having the most important assignment, has very little to report, currently crossing a pretty large desert area.

1910 BC - Barbarian Losses Mounting

Encouraged by their decisive victory over the barbarian wandering too close to their home city, the Farmerville Archers engaged the other intruder, too, and slain him with no mercy. They are now heading back to the city for a parade, which shall be held in celebration of their outstanding performance. Immediately after the parade, a newly formed band of Farmerville workers shall cross the Eastfork River and start improving the bonus grassland tile North of Farmerville. Hopefully, once the mine there is up and running, the production of Farmerville - so far rather woeful - will significantly increase. It is also planned to later connect Farmerville to Red Bricks, some 30 miles NW, with a fine road...

Conan, expressly ordered to lose no time hunting barbarians, is now heading to the hills NW of his current location, making use of the forest cover to successfully hide from the eyes of the hostile warrior. The area clean-up was assigned to Gaul... for him, it is going to be kind of a personal revenge, as he has been shamelessly ambushed by a barbarian apparently coming from a camp somewhere in the coastal hills this year. Fortunately, Gaul did not panick hearing the war cry of the attacker and skillfully threw his heavy axe, killing the barbarian well before he could use his own axe to do any harm.

Angus kept struggling to cross the large desert. He was able to spot a hill on the northern horizon, but the area as a whole seemed to be extremely unsuitable for any human settlement. It looks like the desert was once the bottom of the ocean that is now washing it from East and West...

1870 BC - Yet Another Lesser Tribe Village!

After years of relative boredom, a refreshing piece of news came from Conan. After successfully evading some pesky barbarians, he's been recently wandering inland in the far South. Looking back from atop of hills, he was able to spot a lesser tribe village on the southern coast. Being in a hurry, he decided to not get back and used his carrier pigeon to send a message to Gaul, currently approaching that area from the West. He shall take care of the barbarian camp that must be somewhere close to the village, hopefully making the villagers (perhaps not very happy about the presence of barbarians in their neighbourhood) more friendly and open to information exchange.

Angus keeps struggling to get across quite a large desert, aiming for a high peak rising on his northern horizon. After climbing it, he shall be able to overview a great deal of the land that seems more and more like a a giant peninsula, rather than a true landbridge to another continent...

Our production capacity is getting bigger every year. Farmerville has been able to send their worker band out to mine the fine grassland North of the city. Jackson will be fielding yet another fearsome Numidian Mercenary very soon... which allowed Merciless to go for a short exploration tour, making our knowledge of the eastern coast complete. Leopold successfully made his way through the jungle along the Plastico River and is currently getting ready to irrigate the plain area SE of Panama, helping the city to better feed its population, hopefully speeding up its growth.

            Turn 49

1830 BC - Great Wonder Construction Begins

All headline news over the Legoland country tell the same: our glorious empire has begun the construction of something the whole world will look at in awe. Due to its outstanding production capabilities, Jackson - recently fielding a new Numidian Mercenary unit - has been chosen as the construction site. Although what exactly this grand construction will be is still held a secret, it is generally believed that there will be a new Palace built in Jackson.

Quite some news came from the South - Conan was able to uncover a large area pretty suitable for settling. A river flowing in the west-to-east direction creates sort of a borderline between a hill range and lowlands that offer good food production capabilities. Gaul, following the instructions from Conan, was able to locate not only the coastal lesser tribe village, but a barbarian camp, too. Contrary to what has been discussed before, he will most probably make contact with the lesser tribe first, finding out whether the barbarians are perceived as a potential threat or lived peacefully along.

We also expect quite some deal of new geographical information coming from Angus soon. He has reportedly got very close to the peak, which is currently his primary objective.

Other than that, there are no really exciting news to report - our activities focus on improving the terrain in the vicinity of our cities: Leopold currently irrigates plains SE of Panama, Jason has started building a mine S-SE of Legopolis, along the main Legopolis-Jackson road, and the new Farmerville worker band started mining the bonus grassland area just North of Farmerville.

              Turn 50

1790 BC - Mountains As Far As You Can See

The most anxiously awaited news from Angus actually ended up disappointing many. There is no great land nor the mythical landbridge over there in the Northwest, just barren, rugged terrain - wanderers that beat the desert are "awarded" with high, cold mountains only... Angus, not giving up hope, will continue northwards, but expectations are quite low now...

Far in the southern part of our continent, Conan is heading for a high mountain, hoping to spot the barbarian camp that's been "supplying" Farmerville with unwanted visitors from there... while Gaul is approaching the lesser tribe village, intending to find out whether he should better leave the barbarians live in peace alongside the lesser tribe, or help the villagers to get rid of them once forever.

A newly fielded unit of Numidian Mercenaries has set out from Panama, being ordered to move into the area of the narrow landbridge connecting Legos Major with Legos Minor, eventually becoming a garrison of one of our future cities, planned to be built in that area. MercG and Merciless, having fulfilled their task of charting so far unexplored parts of our eastern coast, are now returning home, to Farmerville and Legopolis, respectively.

And thanks to the recent population growth in Legopolis, we have been able to squeeze in some more gold for our wise men that are trying to figure out how to draw maps and charts allowing us to leave the dry land and venture across water. Using the extra funds, they will most probably be able to finish their research well ahead of the original schedule.

                Turn 51

1750 BC - Legoland Going Mystic

And one more time, our exploring warrior proved himself a living legend of diplomacy. Gaul, friendly approaching a Sumerian village in the far South of Legos Major, has been able to work out an outstanding deal. The poor Sumerians seem to have an ongoing problem with a band of barbarians camping SW of the village. The barbarians reportedly keep frightening Sumerian chicken and stealing their wives (or was it frightening the wives and stealing the chicken?). Gaul, fearing no pity barbarians, promised to wipe them out in exchange for being told the secret of Mysticism! The Sumerians happily agreed and we got yet another bit wiser than before...

The barbarians are likely to remain our biggest security concern for hundreds of years... MercG, returning from his trip to the Eastern coast, spotted another wild man moving to a mountain at the spring of the Eastfork River. Being heavily armed, MercG is unlikely to engage immediately in the mountainous terrain, probably just ignoring the barbarian for the moment, possibly attacking in case the warrior should move towards Farmerville.

Conan and Angus kept exploring, but have had nothing really new to report... Angus may be able to look as far to the West as possible next turn, but hardly anyone expects really breaking news... the excitement over the landbridge to Legos Minor has worn off significantly since its discovery in 2190BC...

Leopold has finished irrigating the plains SE of Panama, allowing the city population to better feed themselves. It is quite likely that having less to fear about how to feed their children, folks over there will be making more of them now! Having taken care of the most pressing needs of Panama, Leopold started building a road connecting the city to our capital.

1725 BC - Dead Barbarian, Good Barbarian

Perhaps the only events worth mentioning for 1725BC were two engagements with barbarians. MercG, despite his heavy armor, unsuited for fighting in high altitudes, decided to take the initiative and attacked a barbarian apparently heading for the Farmerville area. Likewise, Gaul made sure that the friendly mystic Sumerians on the southern coast would have to fear having their chicken and/or women threatened and/or stolen no more, collecting nice 25 gold after his "police action" ended. We expect even more skirmishes with barbarians in the near future, as another warrior appeared SE of the victorious MercG... besides, Conan keeps looking for a barbarian camp believed to be located somewhere south of Farmerville.

Our fellow citizens in Panama are now taking full advantage of the new irrigation system built recently in the nearby riverbank plains area by Leopold, making the growth of their city speed up. Leopold has also built a road connecting that area to Panama, so that the crops grown in the irrigated plains are easier to deliver to the city.

1700 BC - Even More Barbarians

Another quite quiet year for Legoland... although Conan finally located the barbarian camp he was searching for and MercG has another raider right next to him, there were no clashes reported - and quite frankly, we do not expect any in the near future, since Conan is still many miles from the place he spotted the barbarian camp at. Perhaps MercG will choose to try his luck one more time...

Angus in the far North keeps pushing his way through the rugged mountainous terrain, alas having nothing really worth reporting... it is now 99% confirmed that Legos Minor, as we start calling the giant peninsula, is just that... a giant peninsula, leading to nowhere.

There is a major event expected next turn - a grand opening of the brand new Legopolis Granary! Nobody miss it!

1675 BC - Legopolis Granary Opens!

Perhaps the most notable event of this year has been the ceremonial opening of the Legopolis Granary. Its use shall stabilize the growth of our capital, helping us to quicker colonize our landmass. The only drawback of this useful building is that running it costs 1 gold every year. With all our income being invested into the research, we have to fund the granary from our treasury.

Fortunately, our treasury is enjoying its happy millenium! Due to the recent extensive barbarian hunting, we are now almost at 100 gold and next turn, Conan is expected to cash 25 more from the barbarians camping in the desert South of Farmerville. Thanks to the extra income from barbarians, we will be able to run at a deficit budget for quite some time.

Another interesting news came from Angus, now almost forgotten in his efforts to explore Legos Minor. Surprisingly, Legos Minor seems to extend further northwards than previously anticipated, with some pretty fine land available in the valleys between high mountains. Who knows, maybe we will settle even this part of our landmass eventually...

1650 BC - Lesser Tribe Villages Plentiful!

Quite unexpectedly, Gaul has reported spotting yet another lesser tribe village in the central part of the southern Legos Major. Who knows what kind of surprise we are in for this time?

Briefly about the other news: the Northern part of Legos Minor is extending yet further northwards. Marky Merc has reached his destination and will be fortifying on a peak rising above the western jungle. Conan has razed the barbarian camp worrying Farmeville, collecting 25 gold. And MercG turned back eastwards, to check for the existence of a barbarian camp and... and to try verifiying a rumour that there might be another landmass visible across the big ocean East of our easternmost shore!

The vicinity of Farmerville is now being rapidly improved. Jimbo is currently building the second riverbank mine in an effort to boost Farmerville shield effort, while a new band of workers has started the construction to a road eventually connecting Farmerville to the Forkmouth site.

Besides all the regular "boring" news that we do no longer even record, one particular even has caught attention of many this year. MercG, disposing of a barbarian warrior stationed on a hill, got actually injured very shortly before dealing the killing blow. The injury is just mild - when MercG was fending off one of the last desperate blows of the losing barbarian, a small splinter from the edge of his shield hit him close to the eye, drawing some blood. MercG is fortunately ready to go on wherever our wise ruler sends him... he will just need to stop somewhere sooner or later to make sure the scratch does not get infected...

After years of boring lull, there is finally some thrill expected in Legoland. While everybody gets excited about Gaul contacting another lesser tribe in the far South in 1575BC and about going naval in 1550BC (as our wise men will make the secret of Map Making public on the next turn), Angus has recently run into a bit tricky situation, being threatened by two barbarian warriors at the same time. He plans to evade one of them, hopefully fending off the other one, while continuing his charting efforts on Legos Minor.

Two of our Numidian Mercenaries - Marky Merc and MercG - are currently on their way to the western and eastern shores, respectively, planning to have a good look into the water plains... who knows... maybe they spot something of interest...

1575 BC - Advancing in Technology

The year of 1575 BC could very well be nicknamed The Year of Science and Research. Not only our own research project, Map Making, was completed... Gaul, finally getting in contact with a lesser tribe in the southern part of Legos Major, made such a great impression on the Numidian villagers that they taught him their special piece of knowledge - Philosophy! Vivat Gaul!

We are almost finished charting Legos Major. Gaul shall be able to reveal the very last bit of the yet unexplored territory in the heart of our southlands in 1550BC, making good use of the hill North of the Numidian village site. MercG finally arrived at the shore and will be checking our eastern seas for any signs of distant lands. And Marky Merc was ordered to leave his fortified post near Angus' Neck and set out to check for the same on our western shore.

At the same time, Angus has reported locating a barbarian camp on Legos Minor. Undoubtedly, it is not the only one there, as the place is just swarming with wild warriors. Gaul successfully defended against one of them, dispatching the daring attacker to the realms of dead, causing his fellows roaming in the area to withdraw.

The discovery of Map Making is crucial to the future of our glorious empire, allowing us to start exploring the seas separating our lands from other civilizations, hopefully finding them and establishing friendly contacts. Being still left alone in this world, we are - to a degree - keeping pace in technology only thanks to the generous support of our lesser tribes. However, staying moderately advanced is definitely not our long-term goal. In an anticipation of the need to bolster our research and enhance our collective knowledge, Legos the Wise presented a bold plan.

The plan is based around a great wonder that should be built in the city of Jackson. Using the estates and foundations of what was recently planned to become the new palace of Legos the Wise, we shall try to set up The Great Library there, making it easier for knowledge from faraway places of our world to come to us. If nothing goes wrong, The Great Library should be opening in the year of 710 BC.

                                Turn 59

1550 BC - Off To The Sea!

This year saw some remarkable events happening... most notably our first galley setting off to the sea, bound to circumnavigate our continent, checking for any shallow waters allowing to make contacts with other civilizations, so far hidden somewhere across the ocean. Actually, thanks to MercG, who spotted the first signs of overseas eastern lands on the previous turn and now confirmed his observations, we know that there is at least one such a "ford", East of our easternmost shore.

Gaul, that overlooked the very last bit of Legos Major interior shortly after parting with the friendly Numidians, shall now head for our easternmost shore, being assigned to a sentry duty there... even if we do not expect any visitors from across the water, we shall better make sure we do not miss anyone...

Angus, in the far North of Legos Minor, has approached a mob of barbarians camping on the slopes of a high mountain, intending to wipe them out on the next turn. Good luck, Angus! After taking care of this barbarian problem and having a look across the Northern Sea, Angus is bound to turn back to the South, more or less following the Northeastern shore of Legos Minor.

After discovering the secret of Map Making, our wise men went on to study the properties of iron, hoping to learn the secrets of Iron Working, possibly locating deposits of the iron ore throughout our landmass.
