4000 BC - The Birth of Legopolis

At the dawn of times, our tribe arrived at a river bank between hills to the North and a jungle to the South. Wasting no time, we founded our first city, which was named Legopolis. Our diligent worker crossed the river, intending to further improve the bonus grassland tile with cattle. Our wise men went busy studying the art of Bronze Working, being generously funded by whatever gold we could put together.

Legopolis promises to become a real production powerhouse due to fertile grasslands, the river flowing through its area, and the Northern ore-rich hills. However, our workers will have to spend quite some time clearing the wild jungle that currently covers a great deal of the city radius.

Our citizens are doing their best to use the full potential of cattle found across the river, just South-West of the city. We have immediately started training a Warrior in Legopolis.

Even though the actual process is not understood by ordinary mortals, our seers were able to approximate our location in the yet unexplored world:

3950 BC - Roading the Cattle Area

To help develop the trade running around our young capital, our worker was ordered to start building a road to the area across the river, where so much cattle had been spotted before. Hopefully, once the cattle area is connected, we may be able to get more income from there.

However, our first years are more of a struggle than happy empire building... everything seems to take forever... While our military tutors are busy training our first Warrior, our scientists focus on the Bronze Working research, sticking to the schedule.

3900 BC - The Cattle Area Connected to Legopolis!

Finally, after one hundred years of hard work, we were able to finish a fine road connecting our capital with the cattle rich area across the river, just SW of Legopolis. In the future, trade shall be easier to conduct in that area, hopefully bringing more profits for our capital.

In 3850 BC, we shall be able to start further improving the cattle area, possibly increasing its shield output.

3850 BC - Bronze Working Research Speeding Up!

Thanks to the increased profits coming from the newly connected cattle area, we were able to provide our scientists with some extra funding, allowing them to proceed more quickly! The new, quite expensive equipment they are now using to carry out their experiments shall help us finish the Bronze Working research hundreds of years earlier than previously estimated.

In order to further improve the cattle area, making the best use of the fine road we have recently finished, our worker started building a mine there. It is a major undertaking, which shall take quite some time to complete, but we believe that once the mine is up and running, the benefits will be worth the efforts spent.

In the meantime, our Warrior is getting much better at handling its axe. It should not take long before he will be able to leave the city, venturing into yet unexplored areas.

3800 BC - Our First Warrior Ready!

Our military tutors report that the first warrior trained in the art of (war)hammer handling is ready to venture out into the unknown! The brave guy shall set out on a great exploration tour soon.

3750 BC - Legoland Confused: Warrior Idling!

Despite anxious expectations of many, our warrior did not set out towards the hills East of Legopolis! A rumour says he was held back to assist the military tutors that are currently initiating another round of military training. In the meantime, news popped up, suggesting the name of our first warrior was - believe it or not - Coward! It was later found out it was just a funny misunderstanding... the actual name of our certainly brave warrior is Howard...

3700 BC - Citizens Celebrate: Luxury Spotted

This year, Howard finally set out to climb the hill east of Legopolis. Standing on the hilltop, he shouted good news back to the people of Legopolis with his mighty voice: further to the east, the jungle trees show clear indications of Dyes to be found there! Everybody celebrates and looks forward to finally wearing colorful clothing, as those bleaky robes have really been shifting out of fashion for the last two hundreds years...

On another note, Howard did confirm what everybody was afraid of. There is not abundance of fertile land to the east, mostly endless jungle... fortunately, the grasslands in the area seem to be extremely suited not only for growing crops, but for production, too.

In the meantime, our worker finished the mine SW of Legopolis. We will certainly make good use of the extra production, being able to forge fine weapons for our future warriors. The worker is heading northwards now, planning to improve the bonus grassland area, first connecting it both to the cattle area and Legopolis with a road.

3650 BC - A Vast Body of Water to the East!

Exploring further northeast, Howard was able to spot a vast body of water on the horizon. The SE hillsteps of the range Howard is following are extraordinarily suitable for exploitation and there are already rumours of some of our citizens wishing to move to that area, mostly because of healthy coastal climate. As Legopolis is slowly becoming a bit crowded, it is quite likely that we will once see settlers moving there.

Our glorious capital houses 30,000 people now and is capable of working three tiles - besides the city one and the strategic cattle area SW of the city, our elders have recently chosen the bonus grassland NW of Legopolis to be developed and used for food and shield production. Our worker is already building a road there, connecting the area to the rest of our... ahem... "road network".

                    Turn 9

3600 BC - Our First Neighbours: A Lesser Tribe Village Discovered

As Howard pushed on to the northeast, he was able to locate a village of a lesser tribe. It's been only now that our elders revealed what kept Howard in the capital between 3750 and 3700BC. He was secretly developing a secondary skill, Diplomacy, that shall aid him when making contact with other tribes. He is effectively a dual class character: Warrior-Diplomat! Let's hope he did not waste 50 years for nothing... as the village is now his primary objective, he will soon get a chance to prove critics wrong.

While Howard was getting quite far away from Legopolis, our military tutors have finished training our second warrior, Conan (named after a legendary mythical figure). Being able to learn Diplomacy in parallel with improving his combat skills, Conan felt self-assured enough to immediately set out to the hills north of Legopolis, trying to find out how large the desert beyond is. The good news is that it is not that large... actually, it's just a bigger sandbox, really... hopefully just large enough to hide resources, the liking and importance of which we are yet to discover...

With Legopolis having well over 30,000 citizens, we are inevitably approaching the moment, where it will no longer be possible to run the city without some kind of force that will ensure the good advices of our elders will be happily followed. Thus, we are training our third warrior... as he is not supposed to leave the city for quite some while, it was decided to trash his diplomacy lessons, effectively cutting the time needed to train him.

3550 BC - Sea Cows Spotted!

Howard, on his way to the lesser tribe village on the sandy coast, spotted some sea cows on the northeastern edge of the hill range (no surprise our people already refer to this geographical feature as to Howard's Range). Even though we can hardly think of benefitting from the sea cows at the very moment, they may turn out to be extremely important for any city built to the north, beyond or even in the desert, which slowly becomes known as The Sandbox.

Conan The Second Warrior pressed directly westwards this time, trying to get some idea about how the jungle looks like. Well... it looks immense, to say the least... for now, it seems that navigating the Plastico River flowing to the northwest is perhaps the best idea.

Aside from reaching the population of 36,000, Legopolis reports nothing worth mentioning. We are tempted to add that No news is good news...

                        Turn 11

3500 BC - An Unexpected Research Development!

Everybody previously casting doubts on the diplomacy lessons that kept Howard from early explorations was silenced once forever by his tremendous success this year. After contacting the friendly Patzinal tribe inhabiting the village on the coast, he was able to talk them into organizing a grand feast to celebrate our first contact, showing examples of the special art Patzinals have been practising for centuries - of the Ceremonial Burial. The celebration went extremely well and with Howard showing quite some excitement about the performance, all of the Patzinal tribesmen eventually ceremonially buried themselves in front of his eyes. Not only was Howard able to study the Ceremonial Burial in great detail, but at the same time, the lesser tribe effectively ceased to exist, posing no threat to our future expansion. Let they rest in peace!

Conan crossed the Plastico River to the north, climbing another hill... gossips spread out that he is sort of jealous of Howard's achievements and wishes to have the nortwestern range named after him... but, seriously, most people believe that he has showed pretty little so far to be honoured in this way right now. Anyway... Conan was able to spot the Plastico River delta further to NW. It's quite likely that he will find another suitable city site there - the area is apparently inhabitable, as... trumpet fanfare!... Conan located another village on the hills in the interior! We shall see if he stands up to the test just as our beloved Howard did.

3450 BC - The National Guard Established

Our two brave warriors kept exploring our landmass. Howard ran into some pretty rough area and reported back he will have to excercise his climbing techniques in the mountains on the Northern tip of soon-to-be-our lands. Conan, to his greatest sorrow, was ordered to continue NW to the Plastico River delta. The hut he so eagerly wants to pop shall wait for a short while now.

With Legopolis housing 42,000 people, we were quickly reaching the point, it would no longer be possible to maintain order in the city without some kind of armed force. Thus, The National Guard was established in 3450BC, that will enforce laws and order throughout our grand city.

Our researchers are almost finished with their studies on Bronze Working and are now carrying out many experiments making sure that any weapons we may make from bronze will be reliable and deadly. Due to less funding intensive nature of this research stage, the budget has been reworked a little bit, allowing our still pretty thin treasury to grow, even if just slowly.

                            3400 BC - New Horizons

Howard the Warrior-Diplomat is apparently developing yet another skill, almost becoming sort of a multiclass character... he is currently improving in mountaneering, aspiring to the unofficial title of The Cliffhanger! The Northern Range appears to be larger than expected...

However, it was Conan who made the more interesting discovery this year. Following the westwards direction, he climbed a hill above the Plastico River and spot two bodies of water divided by a thin strip of land. Even though it is not yet clear, whether this strip is a thin isthmus or just a small peninsula only, most people consider it a pleasant surprise.

Legopolis is now housing 45,000 people and it has been decided to start building a road through the narrow strip of grassland between the Howard's Range and jungle (our worker has already moved to the area SE of Legopolis). The road shall connect our capital with the coastal site that is currently our top candidate for the second city of Legoland.

3350 BC - Legos, Really the Wise

This year may very well be called The Year of the Lightning Fast Research! Not only our own wise men finished their studies on the art of Bronze Working, moving on to Pottery... but Conan, following Howard's example, made a contact with a minor tribe of Cimmerians, learning the invaluable secret of Warrior Code from them! We are now pretty much safe from any early military threats from our potential neighbours, as we are able to build both rock-solid defenders and cheap attackers. Long live our scouting Warriors-Diplomats!

Howard is now totaly immersed in mountaineering... exploring the vast mountain range to the North of our core area. Conan, on the other hand, encouraged by his recent success with Cimmerians, is heading straight to the South, following hills that will undoubtedly bear his name in the near future... From atop of Conan Hills, he should be able to see quite a bit of the vast jungle spreading to the south...

There are 48,000 people living in Legopolis now and we will very soon be able to work yet another tile along the Plastico River. Our worker is already building a road to there. Also, in about 200 years, we should be able to dispatch our settler to the east coast, hoping to found a new city there.
