What should be our initial research goal?

I believe that with our traits, we start out with Warrior Code and Masonry.

I would have to say Bronse Working. After we get that, pick a city to start building a wonder to store shields. Then bee-line for literacy so we can build the Great Library. If we get this wonder, we will be able to drop our sci rate to nothing and build up our treasury for the horsemen upgrade to Rider.

What do you guys think?

2 things.

1. We're probably going to want the wheel (if not horseback riding) fairly early (not before bronze, of course) so we can find the horses. iron couldn't hurt either.

i was just playing a game with my friends and i had no iron when i got to riders, and they werent too keen on selling it. horseman kamakazies against pikemen it was.

i did get the iron though.

2. I wonder who else will be diving for literacy...

My first goal is usually Ironworking, I can usually trade for the Wheel and Horseback Riding.

It may depend on our starting position. If there are alot of hills and mountains, beline for Iron working. If there are plains and grassland, get the wheel. Then we can start going for the great library. (Who says we have to build GL??? What is the Glory of War for, anyways, if we sit back an let others bask in the glory of of their wonders??)

Wonder-wise, I tend to go for the ones that never expire.

remember as far as wonders go there are going to be other human teams beelining for them as well. i think our best bet is to beat the heck out of any AI or human player around us while we expand like crazy

yea, that what i was going towards. the builders might beeline for literacy before even getting simple war techs. we may lose out BIG.

Ok, this is a good example of things that I, as a builder would miss. Wide open plains, Wheel then Horseback Riding. Hills and mountians, Bronse and Iron Working. Since we already have Warrior Code, do we go for an Archer rush early in an attempt to counter the Mounted Warriors of GS (just speculating on their Civ choice).

i loathe archer rushing. if anyone here has had a few successful ones, speak up. the only one i saw work was in the demogame.

and im not sure how they work in MP.

I think we should beeline and concentrate on horsemen INSTEAD of warriors and spearman.

We can upgrade them to Riders.

yes, but i took a page out of sir ralph's book of war so to speak. notice how i was pushing for war chariots until the bitter end?

Well Great Library would be very nice indeed but should still only be our secondary goal to begin with. Fast units is what we will need! When playing against other human players speed is going to be essental. Information is the way to victory, and fast moving units tend to be able to strike before you even know they were there.

so it sounds like we are all pretty much in agreement that we either beeline for horsemen or swordsmen depending on the terrain and try to conquer as much as we can

after we get our armies operating, i think we should go for monarchy, because the earlier we change our government the better it is for us

Definately get monarchy soon. I don't see us being much for republic or democracy. Of course, about wonder building, we can let other civs build it for us!
