Comment on most recent logs between E_T and vondrack.

It seems that RP are terrified of ND, and are angry with Lux for not putting up a fight and at least killing a few of ND's units ... despite the fact that that would probably have given ND a few new cities.

If ND are able to take over that whole continent then it will be very difficult to stop them. Of course, that's a long way off ... and quite possibly won't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of thousand years GS, Vox and Lego are allied in a war against the mighty pan-continental ND Empire.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

I would rather we hire GoW than see this happen.

Personally, I find it offensive and also question its accuracy. Had the South been allowed to remain its own nation, it might indeed have stayed an "agricultural backwater" (at least in comparison to the North), but it's also very possible that being its own nation would have provided a greater incentive to industrialize than it had as part of the United States. And don't forget the massive economic damage caused in the South by both the war and the reconstruction.

Slavery would have continued longer, but when it ended, racists could not have made black people prime targets for anger and bitterness over having been conquered by the North. If you're against racism but also against being dictated to by outsiders, the question of what position to take when outsiders dictate that you must end racism gets a lot more complicated.

In any case, most of the repercussions of the War Between the States are gone now. And since my mother is from Pennsylvania and my father from Texas, on a strictly personal level, I suppose I should be glad the North won. But in my opinion, there were no "good guys" in that war.

If ND threatens to get out of hand, GS and Vox need to ally with the remains of RP and GoW to try to stop them. Monsters are much easier to kill before they're fully grown.

If I was the aspiring monster, I'd strike quickly. Those stacks of swords should be sent against RP or GoW asap.

We should entertain the possibility of sending an expeditionary force to aid RP, which would be based out of some of our new colonies. However, it is very early and ND by no means has a lock on things.

Hopefully they'd go after RP, because GoW would almost certainly lose if they were attacked by any of the remaining civs on Bob.
Let's just hope that there's going to be a lot of tension, paranoia and military buildup over long-term investments on Bob and that eventually, ND and RP will go to war, waste most of their resources and end up the same size as GoW.

I'm actually kind of hoping that ND talks GoW into a war against RP. It seems RP got the best position, and ND the worst. If they are succesful in attacking, and keeping both other teams off balance long enough to be able to build up themselves, they have a chance at becoming biggest (certainly as it is quite obvious there are a lot of good strategists on ND's team). However, if they don't strike, or take on GoW instead, RP will most likely simply hold back, and grow even stronger. Or RP will use diplomatic power to fuel the war between the two nations for as long as it can...

It seems that, with no strange things happening, there are only 3 competitors for the win left: ND (early military power), RP (better land and relative isolation), and us (isolation, and good land). Legoland might catch up, and GoW could certainly use a perfectly timed GA+UU combination to get on top, but they won't as likely as ND or RP become a superpower.

If either ND or RP attacks GoW, the other would be very wise to join the war on GoW's side. The two together would almost certainly win, with the more powerful civ getting the bigger share of the spoils.

If ND or RP attacks the other, GoW would do well to wait a few turns and then join in on the losing side once the losing side is less powerful than GoW. Assuming GoW's involvement can turn the tide, GoW would be likely to end up bigger and more powerful than its ally.

Interestingly, if the three civs all recognize that successful aggression is likely to result in ending up on the wrong side of a two-against-one war, Bob may actually enjoy an extended period of peace.

Nathan, you're right in your analysis, however I don't know if it's going to go that way. It's not unlikely that GoW starts a war themselves, if it will find it pressed for ground too much. Sure, ND has the biggest military, and GoW will be scared of that, but they have to realize that if they don't do something fast, one of the two others is going to outgrow them.

RP didn't really liked the GoW tactics, and said so on many occasions, however I think it's partly a show, as Togas and GF(?) couldn't stop kissing the other's *ss in Togas' diplo thread in the IDG forum. If ND has one thing against it, it's their isolation, and not being the smooth talkers Togas et al. are. Being in a superiour military power doesn't exactly helps, and some of their rather arrogant public comments didn't do any good either (OTOH, both RP and GoW can surely be considered very self confident and aware too on the public fora)

Sounds like how all the games of Risk me and my brothers ever play work out... first one to attack in a three way situation loses, but can choose who the winner is (of the other two) by who they attack.

With one exception: someone can strike an alliance before attacking... Togas comes to mind

If GoW gets hemmed in, an alliance with RP to get more space might look attractive. A lot might depend on who they think ND would be likely to concentrate more of their forces against.

(Re: what was posted in the GSC&S thread regarding Togas's foreign affairs policy)

Make a mental note never to trust RP or give them any credit.

Btw, I wish that any members of ND would hang out in 'Poly's IRC server so that we could ask them about the trade deal.
