Although I certainly had no intention of running for an office, if there is really know one interested I would be willing to be organizational head of the economic schola. I have no desire to “run the show” but I can compile ideas and organize orders, etc. I, like Sir Ralph, also have RL issues that come up (and unfortunately the first week of the game is likely to be one of these; hopefully things will be simple enough at that point that it won’t be to much of an issue). From what I’ve read there are more qualified people on this team for this position than myself, and I would encourage them to stand up, but if they are taking on a firm “no minister” stance than I would be willing to take to chair of the economic committee (I do have a B.A. in economics ).

P.S. I just had a worrying thought that this post might discourage others from running for this office; please don’t let this stop anyone who would like this position.

Randolph, you may not intend it, but that's a quite good campaigning you started there The best leaders are those that are forced into a job, and reluctantly accept it because they see no-one else would be up to it.

Ah, please don't let our real life diplomas dictate what we need to do in this game though, I have no interest in ministering the AI

If we are to have periodic elections for "Grand Poobah" and "Little P-" ... errr, "Second" and the other government positions, I suggest the term length be significantly longer than 1 month. This game is going to take YEARS to play. Accordingly, I suggest term lengths of 3 months.

Randolph, if you're willing to put in time & effort to keep us organized (which I fully admit I'm not), you've got my vote.

So does this mean add you to the list?

To comment on something, the ministers really don't necessarily run the show, that's not the intent of ministers, the ministers mostly 'keep the show going'. The SCHOLA's run the show technically, or they SHOULD, but they do this by all discussing ideas/orders and etc and submitting them to the CHIEF who takes those ideas and puts them into effect. Even if faced with ideas that go against each other, by being CHIEF you basically get to decide what orders to submit or not. Kind of like a Staff Editor for a newspaper, it's up to you how the story comes out.....make sense?

Meshelic, that's my idea as well, the leaders are responsible for putting things on the agenda, and somewhat act as a referee, or moderator in the debate. Once the debate has settled a litte, he can take the final decisions... However this doesn't necessarily mean he has a lot of power, when he goes against the wishes of his advisors he wont stay chief for long...

Yes, this is what I was attempting (apparently unsuccessfully) to present as not only how I feel a minister should act, but as the only "minister paradigm" I would be willing to act under. The reason I felt the need to say this is form observation of the SP-CIV3DG ministers, which in many cases (but certainly not all) seemed to listen to comments and respond to poles, but formulate actual policy autonomously.

DeepO: If reluctance is a sign of a (possible) leader than you fit the profile even better then me . In fact if this is the case than this team is overflowing with leadership abilities (BTW I know what you're saying).

Add me to the list? If you want, if anyone else wants the position (or is concerned enough with me having it to sign up ) I'll withdrawal.

                    edit: BTW well said Meshelic

Well.. perhaps it good that we only need to have 3 ministers at this point, as otherwise the places wouldn't get filled. As to being reluctant: I like the idea, but really, I'm too inexperienced, and can't promise on time issues to give my name up for election... perhaps later when things change. Plus I like it it, whispering from behind the curtains, instead of being in full view, even if those whispers might not be heared at all times.

Perhaps people who have some experience in the original demo game should step up first. At least for the first term.

Haha I love this Belgian talk, although I've only been there once. (ps I'm not German....well I am but not a citizen, I love fooling people with my flag)

If I ever run for Supreme Military Commander (or whatever we call it) then I'll appoint all you Belgians as General's....

Woohoo, I like this. I say nothing, and others volunteer to do work

I totally agree on the "minister paradigm" that Randolph, DeepO and Meshelic have been discussing. The ministers should be facilitators: they keep things moving and act based upon concensus.
