the control of the save will never fly publicly, some attempts at directly sharing saves was broached by Bigfree this summer and well, it wasn't pretty.

    re: RP

I'm coming to your pov If not for us they would have been eliminated quite a long time ago. we are the only ones who have stood by them. If they are so willing to throw that away, then so be it. Then they would be no better than their nemisis.

What do you propose we give them, the entire north stormia, save elipolis? We would maintain the watch until they were in position? Perhaps after we abandon for them the north, we could leave, say 3 knights in place to make sure there was nothing fishy going on. And have a huge garrrison force in elipolis itself, just incase?

(I think I know what Sir Ralph is going to say about these plans )

Yes, SR has been clear on this. and after not heeding his sage advice last time (we should have disbanded the wounded knights, as he said) I don't want to make the same mistake again.

However, this is a different issue, and I'd like to hear SR's thoughts on the arguments in favour of preserving them.

The other thing about keeping them going is that they have the conquistador and GA to come.

After what Togas and others said in the public forum in the last days, I don't think they are going to betray us, so we probably can let them live. And even if they do it, still nothing is lost. I think, the bottleneck should be formidable to defend, and the rest of the coast can and must be blocked. This way we can hold the fortress at least till the end of the industrial age, to which this game most likely won't last.

Unless something really unexpected happens, we won't be able to win this game anymore, though. I really would dislike to continue it de facto as Legos vassal (to which we would turn if we do what they want). But that's just me, and I'm a horrible diplomat.

For what my voice may be worth after so long...

I don't see the position as worthy of being called a vassal. More like king-maker, or breaker as the case may become, with an outside chance of slipping through up the middle when the big boys bash each other.

We are where we would have been had we not intervened, except...

We have forced ND and GoW to burn most or all of their GAs.

We have gained a vassal for tech trading and palace benefit purposes.

The intervention has cost us dearly, yes. But we have not lost all and have gained some.

Let them come: We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!

Never give in. Never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valour, and be in readiness for the conflict; for it is better for us to perish in battle than to look upon the outrage of our nation and our altar.

Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that if Gathering Storm lasts for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.'

Lucky for us that amphibious assault is impossible until the end of the industrial era! Churchill would be green with envy.

                    Thank god no vikings!

                    Good speeches all around here

CH is right (and whoever else has said it) we have shown ourselves to be the strongest, firmest ally in the game. Certainly all of vox's allies during their crusade turned tail and tried to hide their intentions. And its easy to ally with someone when you're rolling, ie. ND and GoW.

Did someone mention the UN? We'd have to build it to be a candidate, but if were on the ballot and RP are still here we'd have two votes, like Lego. ND would have one, or two if they'd vasselised GoW.

If Lego build it the remaining teams would have agree, and trust each other, to vote for a stalemate. Could be tricksy, though.

It's worth noting how vassels (and possible UN votes) in this game have come by saving teams, not vanquishing them.

True. Orignally, I'd have thought that the UN was virtually pointless. The two (or more) candidates vote for themselves, everyone else abstains, and no-one has a chance of winning. Then I thought that there might be fun and games with people trying to convince other teams that their opposition had secured a vote (not sure how though), and so they needed a vote to continue the game. Now, with the possibility of vassal states who have no expectation of winning for themselves, and tie their interests in with another civ, it gets a lot more complex.

Going for a UN vote would be a high risk strategy though - no team is going to know for sure how others have voted, so you could easily lose despite thinking you were in a great position.

                            How about this :

                            1. ND destroy GoW - and no-one will give them refuge.
                            2. ND attack Lego
                            3. Vox defends Lego and both put up a good fight but but still take a hammering.
                            4. Lego pleads for GS to help, and GS and RP invade Bob.
                            5. GS reinstall RP in spain and Vox in N. Stormia in return for UN votes.
                            6. GS build UN , get three votes and win the game!

I don't think that that is going to be too plausible though.

                              1. ND destroy GoW. Quite possible - and I'm all for it, preferably with us sharing a bit of Bob (and getting a GL from fighting GoW, in an ideal world)

                              2. ND attacks Lego - possible. If marines are in the near future, I imagine they'd take us on instead. Our map is now known, and our city packing makes it possible for them to jump from city to city and do a lot of damage quickly in a surprise attack. With Lego they'd be fighting blind, and be facing a defender who can muster more units to the fight by that point.

                              3. That can't really be judged until we see how the civs are shaping up. But with RRs, and no map, Lego should be able to fight off even a whole-Bob ND.

                              4. Reasonable.

                              5. Also reasonable.

                              6. Neither RP nor Vox honour the agreements and abstain, and Lego and ND vote for themselves, creating stalemate.

Planning nearly two whole eras ahead is probably taking too many variables into account. I'd settle for a plan to get us to riflemen quickly, whilst forming an alliance with ND to take out GoW, and holding Stormia for ourselves.

It was supposed to be more of a laugh, than a plan

Lego might make us an offer to get us caught up in tech, though we probably won't like it. When the Uni's are up we should be able to slipstream back towards parity - especially if the other start fighting each other instead of us.
