What the heck does everybody mean by ND/GoW jointly declaring victory?
If they capture (edit) lego, then ND/GoW will own enough tiles for a domination win. Or they will shortly thereafter when they fill in some of the blank land there and on bob. We doubt this is their intention, but you never know about these people.
It will be interesting to see what happens post-lego.
do they decide to eliminate us, in order to remove a possible ally of their enemy? Or do they try to keep us in, in order to gain our support against their enemy? I could see it going either way

That was my question. Anyway, I don't think that will appeal to them. ND does not know them personally, so they are going to want to win out right, at least I would think they would.

Purely a guess, but I would want an ally if it were me. So it would be the weakest of the two remaining powers.
After that I would see where I stand. It may be that you would have an edge in one of the victory conditions and would not need to fight any longer. You could have a strong enough position to prevent an attack form changing the out come, but not big enough to take the other out.
Combined territory is no basis for a claim of a domination win.
I agree that ND will be looking for a win, and that each of ND and GoW will be looking for an ally...
The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.
It's a shame to have to say this, but the language logistics would make it more likely for GS-GoW to ally than GS-ND. That's kind-of unfair on ND, but it was their choice to play amongst english-language teams. GoW-ND obviously communicated very well in the Bob war, but after our recent diplo with ND I'd say it'd be hard going to co-ordinate militarily.
I agree, also since it appears that ND is the stronger team, it is almost natural that we would attack them joint with GoW. How we get from this point to that point and to us defeating GoW, I don't know. Possibly a backstab halfway through the ND campaign.
I think there is definately still an opening for us to win, we'll just have to see how the cards fall. Who knows, if lego falls quickly, even Vox might have a shot at a diplo victory ridiculous as it sounds.
That's what I get for having played the AU Mod for so long. So Infantry, Arty, and Ironclads it is, until Tanks and Destroyers that is.
The same principles of defense still apply, however.

We've got a bundle of mountain forts up already, Theseus. The thinking was we force a lowland landing, and hopefully have enough arty that we can pummel the landing to a stack of 1hp units and crush it.
We definitely need a lot of ships, though. I am now starting to regret suggesting the disbanding of most of our galley fleet. Most of our productive cities are inland (EotS, Tempest, Arashi). Hurricane and Dissidentville are probably going to have to be our ship producers.
Hey, no worries, those Galleys were put to seriously good use.
I know we have a lot of forts already up, which is good... I just have this image in my head of ALL high ground and resource tiles being forted, and Stormia bristling like a friggin' porcupine.

okay, let's continue here with the discussion. (we were discussing an interesting point in the current turn thread)
The usefulness of cavs after marines
The point of discussion is whether Mil Trad is worth anything to us, as we currently don't have SP, don't fear invasions, have a bunch of knights (not that much), and might need cavs for defense and offense after marines.
I think that in our situation, we won't need cavs. Sure, they might be useful, and any extra unit is one more to fight with, but not worth the extra effort. I do think we need some kind of mobile unit for our defenses (offensive, we will probably go with a slowmover attackgroup, only aided with some fastmovers. We will need support from infs and arts...), but these aren't cavs in my mind. The reason is that we will probably get marines at a similar time as others or earlier... and tanks are as close by as marines. I prefer a tank over a cav.
There are exceptions possible, but the window between marines and tanks is too tight to get any serious use out of cavs. However, we shouldn't throw away any advantage, so in case we can use them, we should upgrade our knights... when the time is right. At that time, any possible NDA on Mil Trad will long be gone, which makes it a lot easier for us to acquire it later on a cheaper price.
If GoW wants to give us Mil Trad, we say thank you, of course.

We shouldn't forget the retreat ability of Cavalry, though. That gives them an edge over Guerillas in counter attack - and RR or not, we might be counter attacking over Stormian territory outside our cultural borders.
Having said that, I don't think we should be spending on Mil Trad now, with no attack on Lego or Stormia pending.
The logical extension of a no-horse approach would be to melt down some surplus knights, as we did with the boats. I feel it's too early to discard them, though.
