I say keep the K and MI at with Cats...

I concur that FL 6 and the 2 Pikes on desert make for tasty bait.

Edit: On the other hand, they can't see Barca 44... although presumably they are at least poking forward for a look-see and pulling back.

The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

Sorry again about not being available all afternoon.

I'm not sure of the intent of this question... as I see it, the 3 Workers will road FL 6 ASAP, the Settler will move to the FL tile next turn, and presto, a connected forward base.

BTW, I know that cutting iron via pillaging and re-roading Barca 89 is a priority, but we will also want to road (and protect) Barca 61 and 6.

You know, I never thought of something...

How does "true fortify" work? I know if you have moved the unit that turn, it is not true fortified... but what if you don;t move and fortify? Is that true fortified, or does it not kick in till the next turn?

In other words, does it matter if you right-click and fortify the stack at FL now? Obviously not for this turn, but for the next?

        Edit: Can't hurt.

I'm wondering why the hurry to get there ahead of our ability to maneuver (the settler for the city).

When we cut that road, we get the iron back, until we repair the road and send the iron back to RP. From that point we can upgrade the swarms that are being created in the barracks cities.

We have to repair it immediately and reestablish the lux trades with RP, or they could have some problems. We could too. No sign of WW yet in our cities, but...

So... the only open question in the FL theatre is whether to bring up the 2 vet MI at Barca 7.

            I vote aye.

Re moving forces ahead of the Settler:

I had thought of going with slowmovers only, hiding the Knights until and after FL was established (the lack of visibility, against a team of smart human opponents, makes this feel like the chess matches that were WWII sub battles).

I worry tremendously, however, about those unseen Riders and Ansars, and think we have to push GoW and ND (especially) into action, even if that's running away.

FL and its vicinity are a clear hot spot, and by pushing forward we have gained control of one of the key, high ground vantage points of the battle field. We will also have extra strength (true fortified) when FL is built.

OK. I'll buy that for a dollar. It helps greatly if the player understands what you want to accomplish, then he/she may not fight you on it. In fact, he/she may assist towards the goal. Just something I learned from the ISDG.

                    Doing wf and builds.

Nathan was outspoken in his preference for a swack load of wc's for upg over spears and horse (unless a horse could be done as fast as a wc). I am prone to agree with him. What do you all think?

FYI, for those watching from the sidelines, assuming GoW pokes a Rider one tile towards our forces in this vicinity, they will see 22 military units and 4 'Workers'.

If they scout from the south, they'll see 10 combatants and 8 Cats on the hill at FL 63.

I honestly don't know what I would do in their combined shoes.

Maybe leave every captured city in the south empty as bait (for abandonment if threatened), and jointly attack Pamplona with the existing forward troops and Toledo with the second wave?

Sorry for not being clearer on intent, nye. And btw, I'd like to say that your thoughts on FL 96 / Barca 44 trumped my original thinking, and I very much like the configuration of our forces as they are.

Re GWs, well, you can't really go wrong with'em.

( that's what I originally wrote... I meant WCs, of course)

We do need more mountain / hill pickets though... can we coordinate with RP for them to possibly fill that role? I know it's sort of inglorious (right word?), but clearly GS will be providing the offensive punch.

Going back to an earlier thought about WHERE we need those pickets, I would add Pamplona 336, as an enemy jump point for FL 89.

We are jointly WAY short of Workers on Bob, btw.

Aside from roads and jungle, in SP I'd be building forts like mad.

nye, if you see this in time, please move the MI to the northeast of New Madrid to NM 9998, and leave him there.

He is a great-nephew of Grog.

OK. I am going to go with wc's. As many as possible. Changing from spears. I will assume that a 2 turn horse is better than a 2 turn wc, duh. However, a 5 turn horse is probably better than a 4 turn wc, yes? That is 6 shields converted to 20 gold (saved). I know the total for the upg is 20 gold for 10 shields, but our problem is going to be the sheer amount of gold needed, I think converting some few shields to gold will be good instead of all the other way around, gold to shields.
