  • I can't recall if we disbanded galleys, but it wouldn't have been for units. We had enough units, only out of place. We had a couple of turns were settlers and workers were guarding our coasts. And we weren't going anywhere, that much was certain. So why need galleys?

We may have been paranoid, but it did create a feeling of safety that we desparetely needed. Don't forget, from the end of the Ancient era, we had been at war. We were exhausted. At such a time, you start looking at everyone (yes, Vox, you too. Who says you wouldn't come back to retake your birth ground). Many of our team had left, or started lurking (I'm extremely proud and happy Aeson rejoined our team after an absence of a year) because of the wars and public 'propaganda'. We managed to get some new blood, and found our footing again.

It doesn't really matter if any other team actually was going to invade us, but for the first time, we could let go, and start some planning of our own. From the start of this game, we had been reacting to stuff happening around us, instead of taking initiative. That sea wall, how stupid and unnecessary it may have looked in your eyes, was directly responsible for us taking the science wonders... creating a path to Legoland. That had more to do with peace and quiteness in our team, than with anything else... and after a while, we got a team again (thanks in no small part that we actually have more builders in our ranks. I'm not a general.) So laugh what you want, I'm glad we had our spears, horses, and WCs guarding our coast.

    • That sea wall was very important psychologically for us. We could relax, build merrily, not having to worry about war for a whole Era.

The galleys were melted down for aquas and libraries
Though, we did have second thoughts about that much later when slogging through the transport builds. Somewhere in Hypo-Space is the formula for Disband & Rebuild vs Keep and Maintain.

      • Yup. IIRC, it was me egging you on (burning galleys for libraries).

Yeah YRC- and all that Dark Side stuff was basically a cheap way of building wonders. C3C changed that. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Arrian's memorable posts in the Strat forum explaining how warmongery could be a tool for building wonders that influenced the designers decision to introduce MGL/SGL leaders. Either that or the Fanes7 thread!

            • Btw, even though a Glory of News article has been posted with much of the info on what has happened this turn, we still have about 1/3 of the save to play and require further discussion. I hope we can play tonight since tomorrow I'll be extremely busy and have to play the entire save over again since PTW eats up my PC's memory like mad.

              • Fanes! Silliness.

Yeah, I'm more of a builder in Conquests (heh), although I still end up doing a fair bit 'o fighting. It's just that I don't typically engage in protracted ancient archer warfare using militaristic civ specifically in order to produce one or more MGLs to rush Wonders with.

The neverending search for ultimate power had adapted to new realities.

                • A question. We have some screenshots from last turn, that I didn't post yet to not rub any salt in open wounds. It would be nice to post them in the battle report thread to give a better idea on what has happened where.

However, we wonder if it is time yet to post these... So a this question: Lego, do you mind, or perhaps welcome, screenshots of turn 244?

So, uh, who did you attack and where?

                            • I would be good to know who the other combatant was, maybe barbs?

                              • Lego?

Either them or GoW, I would think.

Bischop, if this concerns Lego it's not so important, but if you attack another team, could you please be more precise in what happens? I know it's not a pleasant job to do, but it does give a lot of info which is needed in a war.

Well, not needed, but seeing that we agreed on the battle reports (and I don't have to type them anyway ), we better use them to fullest extent. Knowing where damaged troops are left behind is useful info.

Of course, you don't need to publish your battle reports, you only have to give them to the team under attack before they play their turn. We did get used to the public reports, though.
