  • I think we have long passed that point, CH. But after all this time, new points of view keep emerging, and I'm always interested in exploring those.

The 4 cities on Bob... it is strange, but I don't think GS has ever truelly understood how sensitive it was. And the same discussion happened a couple of times: we had it with GoW, with GoW / ND, with RP (well, not much of a discussion there, if we could have held onto their territory, they would have been happy to hand over 3-4 cities), and with Lego. Not once were our true intentions understood. One team didn't trust us, the other thaught we wanted a lot more... strange this. I can honestly say our goals were a lot more modest. I don't know where we got the name of being brutal warmongers, eager to enslave the world
Hum. Well, perhaps Beta's communications did have a tiny bit to do with that

The fact that you are allied to US should be a hint...
A true ally stabs you in the front.

        • Well the funny thing is, if we all feel safe to talk about this, when I, as a fresh recruit to the game, was negotiating with GoW over a Bobian peace deal and the possibility of GS cities on Bob, I was unaware of these 'spearhead' implications that had presumably been considered in detail by my more militarily-mided colleagues in the past, and argued from my heart that all we wanted was to close the production gap opened up over us by our small land. If GoW didn't swallow this - well fair dinkum, but as far as I was concerned, we were just trying to close that production gap!

I actually remember GoW folks in chat, or in PM's talking about 'Spearheads' and I don't suppose I really understood untill now.

Always keep the negotiator in the dark about your team's true intentions. Plausible deniability.

Of course when you're the team leader and primary negotiator that makes it a little harder.

            • For a while, CH was GS. But that only happened a couple of months later. At the time of this discussion, I think Nathan was still at the helm, he left in the first few turns of the Bobian war (went on a well-deserved pension given his huge effort up to, and through the Voxian war).

CH, at that time, GS was a mess... and it stayed like that until after the war ended and you had taken over. Wars wear you out very quickly. I can certainly understand the importance of spearheads was never properly discussed, what was? Only looking at how we came to the decision to support RP still makes me shake my head. Non-informed, without any guarantees, we just did what felt was right... and at that time, people were calling us cold and calculated. We were neither.

              • I think after being demonized by the other teams throughout the war of voxian agression, we were a bit too eager to come to another team's aid.

Those were dark times for GS. Its quite remarkable that we were able to rebound from that and get back in the game. Chalk that up to GoW/Nd having to resettle their new lands and Gs's fortress Stormia. Just enough bodies to fill the coast!

Did you really think we would attack Stormia ?

I think GoW only had 2 galleys

                  • last time you invaded us, you only had 2 horses in your invasion force. So why would being invaded by two galleys be so strange?

Just because your paranoid doesn't mean someones not out to get you.

It seems to me that we saw a few galleys float by our well defended coast. but I could be confusing the times.

It was a tense few turns until we could complete our sea wall, very tense.

                              From What ?

Somehow, we found out that you had disbanded all of your galleys to rush units. (could of been GS propaganda)

Posts were like ... they did WHAT ??!!!
Why the hell did they do that !!??

silly us, thinking that we gave ND/GoW/Lego the perfect opening to attack us on Stormia, having had the vast majority of our forces annhilated on Bob. All you guys would have had to do was land a small percentage of the army you had onto our shores and we would have been toast. (Of course, GS has been known to overthink things at times )

And Gow needed few more than 2 galleys to assault us (RP) in the north, anyway. Not exactly an ocean up there between whatever those two cities are called.
