  • What is (an) Ankh Morpork??

Ok - I confess my ignorance. Snoopy showed up in the Expanding PBEM with this same name, and now a demo game team has adopted it.

What is Ankh Morpork? Or what is an Ankh Morpork?

Is it animal, mineral, or vegetable?

Is it bigger or smaller than a bread box?

Do I need to be scared.

    Please help.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

Ankh morpork is the largest city on the Discworld, which is a flat and carried through space on the back of four giant Elephants, which in turn are carried on the back of great A'Tuin, a Turtle 10,000 miles long. It is a city of a hundred thaosand Souls, and ten times that number of inhabitants

Beta, it is a series of books written by Terry Pratchett, and there are about 33+ in total. All of them are set on the Disc, but there are severaal different leaad charateres in the series.

for Example, the is Rincewind, a "Wizzard" so inept that when he finally dies (i.e. someone actually catches him after he runs away) that the net magical ability of the human species will increase.

There is also the Witches, the Guards, Death, and an assortment of books where the main characters are newly created, and he has written two childreens books into the series (the only differeence in writting style in them is that Pratchett is less cynical), although recently all of the stories have Ankh Morpork as the main background.

I suggest that you have a look at the books. I started reading them when I was eight, and I still reread them now. Best writer I have ever seen

Or just head over to your local bookstore and buy a copy of "The Colour Of Magic" ... then read "The Light Fantastic", "Equal Rites", "Guards, Guards", and "Mort". Then decide if you like the series or not (as you'll have been introduced to most of the main characters in the series now).

The series, other than being hilarious and well written, is sort of unique in that it has multiple storylines written essentially independently of each other in the books; you can generally read all of the books of one "storyline" and ignore the others if you want.

            Storylines (main characters therein):

Rincewind (The Colour Of Magic, The Light Fantastic, etc.)
Captain Vimes et al. (Guards! Guards!)
            The Witches (Equal Rites)
            Death/Mort ("Mort")

There are also three or four books with none of the above characters in them, and several with more than one of the above characters in them.

Terry Pratchett has been inaccurately compared to Douglas Adams and Piers Anthony. He's not like either one, although fans of both often like him.

Ok. Thanks. It is usually difficult to pry me away from my hard-core SF, or history, but I have read some of the genre you have described, and I do enjoy it. And I think I have read some Piers Anthony, and of course, Douglas Adams.

I will check it out. Thanks for the info.

                    the greatest team, really
the captain/turn player/team creator doesn't know what the team name means
the man with the lowest artistic skills created an unglu icon and it is our sign now
we have no philosophy, no theme, no role-playing

Actually the only real choice (and discussion) we had was about the civilization we will take.

it is so similar to the live in Ankh-Morpork...
