      Edit--

I don't know how you plan on doing the auction. What if I offer $350 for 009, and $250 for 012?

The government will loan you as MUCH money as you need!

        Example:
If you need $1670 to beat someone else's bid for a high priced land, the Government will loan it to you. After ten turns, we'll start charging 10% interest. Say you are able to pay off all of it. Then there's no interest charge. Say, if you only pay off $$1000, then $670 is outstanding. You must pay $67 per turn after the 10th turn.

Or, you can get a jungle tile for $200 easy (I doubt anyone will try to outbid you by much). It makes 1 food per turn. That's 1 food over ten turns. If you can sell 10 food for more than $200 in total, then you're debt free. Say you manage only to pay of $150 in debt, then you still owe $50 by 10th turn. Next turn, they charge 10%=5$ interest.

sounds like the jungle is better? not necessarily. it only makes 1 food. better lands might make 2 food, 1 shield, 2 commerce. a diversified land also is less vulnerable to market changes and people "dumping" commodities.

FYI: To help you get an idea of what commodities are going for. This may change before all lands are bid for since there might be a turnchat/turnthread.

          Current Market Assessment:

          Game year: 430 BC
"Special Economic Region": Apolyton, Termina, Tassagrad, BHQ

          Total population: 13

          Food demand: 26
          Food supplied: 8+9+6+8= 31

          D:S = 26/31 = 84%

          Shield Demand: 6+4+3+3=16
          Shield Supply: 6+4+3+4=17

          D:S: = 16/17 = 94%

          Commerce Demand: 6+4+3+5=18
          Commerce Supplied: 6+5+3+7=21

          D:S: = 18/21 =86%

(*Note: The difference between shields demanded and supplied is due to waste. Same idea for commerce. We ignore the effects of beakers for this Beta.)

These are default initial prices. When you decide to sell items on the market (say 2 food), then you add that to Supply to determine the new default price. If you are buying, you add your demand to the demand to get the new price.

This does mean that prices will fluctuate as people make their proposals. However, only at the end of the turn are the deals carried out.

The Market Assessor's job is just to update the above at the start of every turn. It means they have to look at the most curent save game and count heads, city production and waste, and city commerce and corruption. They also have to warn people a few hours before posting the new assessment so they know the negotiating time is about to run out.

Ok, sounds like there are land-hungry buyers out there. Let's say you can bid for more than 1 tile IF your total sum is less than $1000. No more than 3 tiles per person to start though.

Prices given are MINIMUM start prices. We won't sell for less.

So if I am brining 2 food in a turn on a grassland, can that directly translate into $20 a turn? We can't simply trade amongst eachother or we'll just be shifting debt.

                              Captain,

In your formula the effect of the waste is to reduce the market price : the higher is the waste, the lower is the market price ! It should work the other way around.

are laborers neccessary just to convert shields? Or are they neccessary to produce your food and commerce too?
