  • UNOFFICIAL - What to research next...

Keep in mind everything here is unofficial. We have 21 turns until I get to pick a new tech to research. This leaves plenty of time for talk. Our choices might be very different in 21 turns too. I just feel like this should be discussed early, and I don't have much else to do right now. I also assume a lot here. I know it is customary to have a discussion thread before I poll, but I'm only going to look at the poll to vaguely see what people are looking for. There will be another thread like this closer to the 21 turn mark.

There seems to be a lot of support for Plan Gold. That will take something like 20 turns of preparation. We will have Currency in 21 turns. This puts our next tech choice at an important time. I believe we should discuss it early. Keep in mind this we would get this tech after or near the end of the war with France.

    We have 4 choices.

Construction - Great Wall (may trigger Golden Age), Aquaduct, Colosseum, and Build Fortress.

Republic - Republic (increase in commerse but also war weariness).

    Literature - Great Library, Library.

Monarchy - Monarchy (which lowers corruption).

Edit: Polytheism was successfully techwhored so I removed it from the list.

Any. It doesn't really matter; IIRC we're not giving science any funding.

I think literature would be the best choice, if we don't get it sooner.
Once we'll have won against the French (in ca. 20 turns if we follow Plan Gold), builder strategies will definitely be a viable choice, and we'll have to make libraries to become leaders in tech, at last.
Also, we're playing 1.21f, where the AI is less likely to research a tech not required for next era

Note: Polytheism has already been discovered, but is extremely expensive to buy.

I think you did, I say a government type, it depends on what type of victory we want (I would usually say Republic).

with a republic, i dont think war weariness will be too much of a problem. it hardly is in long, drawn out wars, and with our swift campaigns, the benefits will far outweigh the drawbacks...

                I don't think I forgot anything.

Epi, yes I know it has already been discovered. That is why I grouped it with Monarchy because we might have bought it in the next 21 turns.

And skywalker, in 30 turns or so, we might be done with a war with France and have plenty of cash. We might be able to allocate more money for science.

Well, lets see, poll ends in 5 days, wait, I don't see any voting...so...open poll, ok.

And I would say Monarchy or Lit.

We techwhored polytheism (thanks Epi for the suggestion), and made a profit on the deal. The path to monarchy is wide open.

Monarchy or Republic. Either is better than Despotism.

If neither is available (unlikely-- or am I thinking of Civ II again?), then Lit.

I say republic, we are not lookingg at long drawn out wars, rather quick decisive strikes!
