Hmm. I would say Monarchy so we can get our cities producing whilst conducting easy wars (at least we have the option), but Literacy = Libraries, which, apart from the science bonus, will give great culture. Literacy is my pick JR!

Not Construction: I think this leads us to very little of relevance right now.

Republic - although people may successfully wage wars under a Republic, remember that we'd then have to pay for EVERY unit we have; no freebies. This would cripple us far more in our current state than war weariness would if we have a decent force. One day maybe, when we have the population and roads to give us the necessary gold. Let's save our gold for upgrading and buying techs.

Right now I'm leaning towards Lit.

I'd like to get the opinion of the city planner though...If anyone is planning to run for that next election, now would be a good time to start campaigning.

I'm going to have a more detailed report on possible techs as it gets closer to the time to choose. I'll have a real poll too.

Lit for libraries and culture. Republic = WW & Unit Support, Monarchy's bonuses would work better a little later, when we wouldn't be taking as much of a support hit when we upgrade

Monarchy. We are going to annother war (less war weariness).
BTW, with our advantage (religious) we could change to Rep any time, in one turn, obtaining the tech from France (by war) or another civ.

You're forgetting that either one of the new government type will make our workers 2 times faster (change their work speed from 50% to 100%. Correct me if I'm wrong) as well as allow us to money-rush projects.
I say we go for a revolution! Right now everything is better than Despotism, though being a Republic means we'll be subject to serious war weariness. Many here are betting that our next attack will be swift, but what if it won't? What if we'll need to send a second wave, or deal with a counterattack that will make the war longer? Then we'll have to transfer funds to happiness and we'll be screwed since we have very little money.

Lit -- let's get great library and then spend less money buying techs.

After Lit, I'd say either monarchy or construction.

                        Good question...

I would say either Lit or Republic.
Lit would improve science and culture
Republic improve commerce and reduce corruption. I would say Republic first, as the AI is less likely to go for it, and then we can trade it.

Something that will be my job to manage should I be elected... thought thats not too likely at this point...

I have to agree. Once we have the great library we can effectively forget about making our own research or buying techs until we have education. We must get Lit and start building the great library ASAP, even at the cost of postponing the war with France.

                            Ok, we got Lit.

Since no one really wants construction it is a choice between the two governments.

We should get Republic. The benefits of republic are great and they exceed those of Monarchy. The difference is of course that Monarchy has less war weariness, but we're a religious civ so we can switch back to Despotism of Monarchy if we'll get it during wartime without descending into anarchy at all.
When in peace with our neighbors we could switch back to republic and enjoy all the cool benefits of it.

If we plan on making any big cities, construction will be needed for coliseums (unless we take cathedral route), but of course we don't need that any time soon. In the short term, we might be able to use construction as a trading tool. (Talking about trading for it, not researching it)

What will our GPT be if we switch to Republic? 2?
