And one more point is that if you capture the cities from Persia you should in time see a growth in the economy there too.

Of course they need connecting by roads or harbours!

But the longer we stay Despot the further behind we will fall in all factors !!

Well, corruption will be less problematic under Monarchy than it is under Despotism... but it's still bad under Monarchy. But I fear you may be overestimating the lessening of corruption; it's not a huge drop in corruption in waste, after all.

Your Army size may be reduced some from war so this is a non issue and only temporary!
Well, I certainly hope the army size isn't decreased. You're almost making it sound like it would be a good thing to lose the war. And the size of the army is only going to get larger over time, not smaller; we currently have 7 units in production.

Your science production will be greatly enhanced which will allow for tinkering somewhat with the sliders adjusting Tax Science ratios!
We are only producing science from 1 single scientist in New Asgard, and the science and luxury sliders are already at 0, so we can't decrease those any more to get more money.

And if luxeries can be aquired as spoils of war and hooked up the people will be happier! meaning more revenue!
Well, there is the possibility of acquiring Silks from the Persian war. But before we can use it, we have to build roads connecting the silks to newly captured cities, and then we might have to build a harbor, too. And that could take a while...

Ive not checked all cities closely but have read some of the turn chats and it seems there are several entertainers out there!! much wasted potential production!! more luxeries less entertainers!!
We currently have 2 entertainers only. And even if we do hook up silks, our cities will continue to grow and more entertainers will be needed.

If your army is far too big for the empires size why not disband and build workers instead to improve the terrain instead, again Ive not studied the map seriously.
Absolutely not. We are surrounded by three agressive and powerful neighbors. If we start disbanding parts of the army, we will lose! Besides, we already have several groups of workers improving the terrain, and over half of our terrain is improved; I believe we already have plenty of workers.

we need to change as soon as, and crank out more workers as soon as, to get building some terrain improvements and roads.
Like I said above, we already have plenty of workers and good portions of the land are already improved.

Focus military aggression for the purpose of aquiring luxs and resouces and little gems like the Great Lighthouse!!
Limited military activity and small goals will not win us this game... we must greatly cripple and then destroy our neighbors to ensure our survival!

And one more point is that if you capture the cities from Persia you should in time see a growth in the economy there too.
True, but if we are to capture the Persian cities in the first place, we will need a large army and the funds to support it!

But the longer we stay Despot the further behind we will fall in all factors !!
Not if switching to Monarchy destroys our cash flow!

      ...

I'd also like to point out that our current surplus is partially due to the presence of 5 taxmen throughout Vikingland. They are currently making us +5 gpt. The fact that we are able to even maintain a surplus is partly due to these specialists.

so we stay despot forever and a day running around with lots and lots of swordsmen which will serve us very well when our neighbours have Modern Armour.

As you have far longer time served with this game Jonny it is fair to say you have a greater knowledge of the situation overall than me, but your continueing shortsightedness astounds me!

The size of the army for this nation is too big as it is at the moment, and if you want to expand it you will have to improve the economy and expand your holdings.

Perhaps it is well you are the military advisor and not the economics guru !

Pah I will say no more it is after all a vote and I have stated my case as well I can, I only hope other people can see further into the future than our supreme military commander.

Well, I suppose that's why I'm the SMC and not the Minister of the Interior or part of any other office that has anything to do with economics...

But seriously, all I'm suggesting is that we should wait until after the Persian wars to switch to Monarchy, so that newly captured cities will provide us with a larger economy that will help make a new-found Monarchy more economically stable and viable.

i agree with the monarchists here..

the earlier we can get into monarchy the earlier we can reap the rewards of better economies.

if the army is too large at rpesent due to our size then so be it, but as we conquer each city we will gain the ability to have a larger army.

            to war !!!!

True, we will need more population (and aqueducts) for the monarchy. But I think with all our cash we will be able to to support the earlier government switch.

We will expand our ability to support units as we capture cities from the Persioans.

We can also settle more cities.

Our cash reserves can be used in the short term to support the Army.

We WILL lose some units in the war.

Monarchy, overall, is the way to go.
