Couldn't find anything on Afro-Asiatic, Altaic, Sino-Tibetan ethnic family trees. I miss Indo-Aryans as well.

    SLAVIC TREE

I love this stuff. How about the indian language groups?

Nice indeed, but with what purpose would it be in the game? To make SCHISM more realistic or so?

Very interesting. Now we are armed against those who think Arabs and Turks are the same !
But really, I love these ethnic trees. I didn't know that ethiopians were Semitic.

These trees are great, but they are constructed according to linguistic theory. Turns out they are mostly correct, based on DNA studies.

I recall an article (in Scientific American?) on the latter studies. The colorful illustration was circular or spiral, IIRC. Does anyone else remember this?

Well if there were ever civil wars again ala civ 1, then this tree could be used to perhaps identify the civ breaking off from you, and hence it would make more sense then the egyptians declaring their independance from the chinese...

                      Amesjustin,
Civolution is a good name!!! That's what I thought about yesterday when looking at these trees. There can't be that so many people speak and think about same too often - it's a sign from heaven, ya know.

To my mind the game should have as many trees as possible, without having to fear about PC memory being unable to handle all of them at the same time. Especially if we get rid of random map generator. What a relief!!! we can get.

See, the game already has Scientific tree, so why not have ethnic tree? Do we fear that it is not politically correct or what??

When you say Indian languages you mean Indo-Aryan, right? As opposed to Indo-Iranian, which is closest relative to Indo-Aryan, but there are also Dravidians who live in Southern India and Sri-Lanka and little bit of Brahuis in Pakistan. They have no connection at all to Indo-Aryans.

You are right. This ethnic tree can be triggered to action only, and should be, to my mind, when your population becomes sort of unhappy with your rule and wants to separate and secede from your tyranic Empire or whatever rule for a number of reasons (here you can throw any reason thinkable and unthinkable within the game framework). And then on the other hand they hate to join your neighbours, so they wouldn't join them either, well, unless they have very high culture compared to yours. So, if your neighbours are not so advanced in culture and in science, and they are pissed off by your rule, they secede and form a nation of their own with coulpe of cities on your border. I think there were cases like that in the past. Of course you will try to do everything to win their favour back, here the ethnic tree could also be of value, it will recommend new names of your confederate nation or whatever.

Strange as it may sound, this Ural-Altaic theory goes that nations as seemingly far from each other as Turkish, Mongols, Hungarians, Finnish, Koreans and Japanese are all distantly related to each other!!!
