  • A note about Civs in an Expansion Pack

I didn't want to make any non-voting posts within Locutus' expansion civ thread, so I've made a new thread.

I think that any expansion pack would be packaged with scenerios including new civs, not JUST new civs. So it would be more likely that an expansion pack would contain, say, 8 civs for an ancient-times scenerio, another 8 civs for a Roman scenerio, exploration of the new world, WWI and/or WWII. Or whatever scenerios are included.

So an expansion pack would likely contain one set of 8 civs for each scenerio.

Someone with more historical knowledge than I could give more detail regarding which civs would be included.

    Don't you agree?

We all want alot of new civs, the only problem I see is that in order to make alot of new civs Firaxis will have to make alot of new animations and unique units which is hard work, thats why I cant imagine them making more than 12 new civs, possibly 16.
I dont like being pessimistic so could someone please write something that proves me wrong?
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars

They´d probably have several scenarios, each scenario introducing one or more new civilizations. Or perhaps just some new animated leader pictures, units, terrains etc. appropriate for the era.
After all, it seems the only thing required to add a new civilization are its graphics (beside some simple settings, such as leader names, city names, titles, properties etc.). Anyone can change the settings, but the graphics requires experts, so that´s what most people will be waiting for.

A Genghis Khan scenario could add Mongols, give Chinese another leader, add several "Arab" "dynasties", like Khwarizm, Seljuks, Abbasids, Ayyubids etc. and Byzantines.

A Viking scenario would add the Vikings and give the others more appropriate leader animations.

An "Age of Discovery" scenario could add the Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch...

So, what others did I miss?

Drat, I was gonna start this thread.

The expansions should center around the scenarios. Possible expansions include Precolumbian North America, Precolumbian South America, Postcolumbian Americas, Ancient Europe, Medieval Europe, Modern Europe, Ancient Middle East, Modern Middle East, Medieval Africa, Modern Africa, Ancient Asia, Modern Asia, Oceania, Mythology/ Folklore/ Fantasy, Bible, alternate history/ alternate futures, newly created alien races to be played on space terrain, and a grouping of specific historical wars such as WW1, WW2, and the Persian Gulf.

Possibly the expansion- based civs wouldn't need animations. I like the idea of adding new leaders for the same old civs. Some leaders and cities can be mythological or ficticious. New units could indeed be a problem, I hope they won't have to be animated.

Individual expansions could be about 15 bucks and include their own music.

Well, many of the existing civs would be used in some scenerios, so you may only need a few additional civs for each.

Brent and Mercator - Those are great examples. I look forward most to Ancient Europe and Age of Discovery.

I wonder if it bothers Firaxis that we start talking Expansion Packs before the game is even released ?!

Well, seeing as how they promised to pay attention to the wish list, I don't think they'll have a problem. Whether they'll pay attention or not is a completely different question...

They said there will be scenerios. Way back they said 12. Their last post on scenerios some will be shipped with the game. How many is some?
If this game sell into the millions I belived we might see a expansion pack. If it does not sell then we'll see nothing.

We see this game as a maybe great game. They see it as great game and how much money it will make and is it worth their time to add to the game.

I think they also should include new cultures and civabilities in an expansion. Maybe also some new techs and units.
