  • OCC - Hit me baby one more time...

    Alright people, the Oldman is back and i'm ready to play!!

    I know Civ3 is out as of, like, tomorrow or something... but as some of us aren't going to buy it straight away, or can't play it anyway (those of us with a P1?!?!)

    How about one last game of OCC? (o' course it doesn't have to be the last one ever... but you know...)

    If anyone is interested, i can come up with a map or if Paul has one lying around...

    Just thought i'd say hi anyway!!

      And I'm young enough on Apolyton not to remember you, Oldman... Hence my name, freshman!

      But yeah - I'd love a OCC game. I've been in a gaming slump since Sept.11. And I'm not purchasing CivIII anytime soon because I've got a Mac!

        Here's a game to try. You only start with Alphabet, but you've got four rivered specials.

        For a random map, I thought it was a ton of fun.

              lol - it looks like we have our selves a challenge!!!

              do people like the look of the save from Toetruck? or does someone fancy a purpose built scenario? I'll start on one anyway and see how it goes...

                I've already started on it. The only major downside is that there were no starting techs, so the road to Monarchy is slow!
                I hit the Oedo year of 1650 bc for Monarchy, ugg. Shoot - I had Colosus built before then! I'm sure other people got a little luckier with their huts than I did - not one of them gave me anything required for Monarchy.

                  I landed in 1801ad.
                  I can't say I had a great game but it was fun one with lots of war.I destroyed Spain right away.This opened a 2nd location with 2 gold silk and whale.This one may have been better.I took 2 buffalo,2 silk for the city square and i think that the idea.
                  Poor yellow got destroyed at least 3 times that I remember.Twice for orange.A bunch of restarts.Kept messing up my contact situation.Got lucky having spawned settlers start next to or close any exploring units.

                  Tech path was a mess.Got on the wrong track early.Ended up with Medicine before Astronomy so I built Shake's out of normal sequence.Didn't work out too well as my march to Sanitation got all messed up.Similiar difficulties on the last stretch to Spaceflight.Could have been building structurals instead of freights.

                  Barbs were rampant and responsible for a fair share of the carnage in the middle of the map.I was safe,tucked away on good defensive terrain.A few nearby mountains served as good sentry posts inhibiting the ai movement towards,and settlement of,lands close by until I had forts and other security measures in place.

                  The lack of a boat made caravan delivery over the rugged,twisty terrain slow and treacherous.I was able to build a bunch of hides early and other commodities thru out the game but payoff was borderline.

                  Space was a good option for my people as the Russians were assimilating the map at an alarming rate.Too little,too late.

                  I also forgot to revolt for Monarchy after gaining it via hut.I can't say how many time I've done this since oedo years came about

                    Why acqueduct sold on 1140 ad?

                      Smash had reached the max size to which he intended to grow the city, 28, in 1120.

                      You only need the aqueduct and the sewer to grow your city - the game checks that they exist before increasing the city size. You can run a non growing city over size 12 without them.

                      So, by selling them, there is no growth penalty, and you get 200 (approx) gold from the sale, and save 7G per turn in upkeep (worth about 400G by the time he launched).

                        That is correct.Aquaduct and sewer only allow growth beyond 8 and 12.Aside from that they do nothing cept cost maintainance.I was going to disband engineer #3 first but there was still some RRs to build and the first 2 were very busy with pollution patrol.

So, if I have well understood, every time that the city has to grow (over 8 or 12) the game checks if acq or sew are in the city otherwise the message "XXX city needs acq/sew for ..." appears.

                              something like that.The turn after the foodbox is full you'll get the message if applicable.
                              When you are "we loving" you rush your aquaduct on the turn your city reaches size 8...or try to anyways.For size 12,i try to start my clebration on the same turn i discover Sanitation.Then I can rush the sewer and get growth on the same turn.City build orders come thru first when "we loving"..but rushing an aqua at size 8 only works for "we love days".If you have a full foodbox and grow normally you must finish your aquaduct or sewer the trun BEFORE the foodbox fills or you get the message and then xxx builds aquaduct.You end up with a size 8 city with an aquaduct and an empty food box(no granary)
