I think that the theoretical high score could be even higher. If you manage to destroy a lot of civilizations early in the game, you recieve more bonus points from a world conquest victory than the maximum 400 for a SS win.

I'm not sure about the exact scores for destroying a civ. But a quick test that I just did, killing all civs before 3000 BC, including several new ones that sprung up, gave already a bonus of 1705 points. Killing all except for one and changing the game year to 2019 still gave a bonus of a bit more than 1000 points.

It would be interesting to hear from somebody with more knowledge of the points given for a military victory what the max amount of bonus is. I have no idea what the possible highest bonus could be, or even if I'm overlooking something here.

It really doesn't matter does it. At that level it's an endurance test instead of the highest possible points. I'm sure the person would be locked in a rubber room well before 32,000.

Paul, 4 week probably wouldn't be enough

But I would still like to see someone top Ming's.

I have a 4-week summer vacation right now, but I have no intention of using that time to get 20k+ points. I would probably be bored to death before I was halfway through the game.

My hat's off to anyone who toughs it out for a Hall of Fame finish

Can't say I'd ever try - my best diety game (Just Another of the Chinese - multiple puns intended ) is only approacing 600% (only restless tribes) with 5 civs each only with a capitol hanging around to trade with. and many cities even still unirrigated. With as many engineers and freights i need to move every turn and quite a few turns left (1880's) I certainly could make a run at a top 10 finish but i can't see me trying this decade I haven't played it in almost a year. And I don't think i'd send it in since its pretty evident from the city layout near the capitol that when i first started the game I got more than my fair share of advanced tribes

To go for scores really high, let's say above 15000, you should not have farmland everywhere. Production is what counts, as you need to be able to build a freight in every city every turn. That means that you must have 50 shield available for production. If you have farmland all over, certain cities might not obtain that production level.

(finally I made it back to the forums)

Why do you need a to build a freight every turn? You can just buy them. At this stage of the game, 10% science will earn you all the future techs quick enough... you don't need luxeries set high until the finish, and the rest is just pure cash... Heck, you can't spend it fast enough! Every farmland square you have is less food caravans you need to max the cities out... I'll take the farmland. Production is meaningless at that point.

It's hard, very hard to remain sane. Keep an eye on the hall of fame, I just posted a new record ... A REALLY,REALLY NEW RECORD.

Yes Ming, partly your right but ...

It's a lot easier if you can skip all the buying stuff, sending the freights around is already hard enough.

you know,I decided to download the #4 posting by Tom Calman since it was the highest in 2.42 to see how big his cities were. Not one of them was over size 43, even though he had several sites that could have grown to 44 naturally. In fact he only had 3 caravan routes TOTAL. Thats right - 1 city with 3 routes to 3 other local cities. None were food routes. The 250 other cities had a grand total of 0 trade routes (might have missed one since i only checked the AI capitols and adjacent cities). Based on that fact he probably didn't face quite the same boredom levels that we caravan users might face.

He had a 2000%+ score too. A quick scan of the map showed at least one city location that would have been better than what he chose for his 253rd city (size 26 vs 19) so he could have done slightly better.

Anyway, imagine what he could have done with food caravans. He had over 40 cities that would be prime candidates to produce them - all with odd food production. Wouldn't even have to rehome anything to gain benefits since he had no trade routes to begin with. With 12 extra turns (ship landed in 2008) that might have made the difference between #4 and #1.

Thats enough rambling for now I guess

I don't know whether to say:
"Congrats!Way to go" or "Why?Are you nuts?"

Either way it shows stubbornness and dedication to the task at hand.

You could almost include this on your resume.

"Here is an example of my dedication, attention to detail and willingness to complete the most tedious of tasks"

Congrats, smilio! This is just the kind of thing that can be accomplished with hard work, dedication, and way way too much free time!

As I posted above, I don´t like the idea of food caravans for such purposes too much (is there a thread with a discussion about food caravans?). So I don´t think I will achieve a much higher score than I recently did (1573%). Btw, I sent my game to Rasputin00 last night (Jul 27th, 21:00 Greenwich time). When can I expect it to be shown in the Hall of Fame?
