      Oda turn

The center of Japan is relatively quiet...while Oda peasantry is being armed...
To Imagawa: Some hot-headed Oda archers have blundered into your territory. Although they are lead by the son of my best general, I offer you all their heads. If you really want to punish them, let them return home and learn about shame.

Lands to the south have been sold to Shimazu. Troops and valuables are being transfered to Totomi. Total transfer expected within five years.

To Oda: The most unhonorable archer dogs must vacate soon or our men of the shadows will have to assassinate their general for his actions.

We also request a small sum of koku for the interrupted farm production. Perhaps as small as 20 or 50 koku.

Envoys recieved from the Imagawas, the message was received and a reply has been sent.

Contact estabilished with the Oda, Imagawas and Hojo, peace was signed with the latter as the negotiators awed by their impressive defence installations
The others are offered peace by the Takedas should they chose to accept it (ie I didnt sign any treaties ingame, that'll have to be done after you guys agree to it )

I think so. I'm not entirely sure of the nature of the great wall...

It does, but that's generally ignored in PBEMs as far as I know.
The only good treaties are actual ones, unless the creator says different that is...

Daimyo Uesugi Martinooki has ordered the relocation of peasants from various settlements to establish new settlements in northern Japan.

Daimyo Uesugi has rides now to war against the rebels and the ronin, and extends his hand of friendship to all worthy daimyos of Japan, may the Emperor extend his blessing upon all in peace.

The manual contains a lot of information on the units and the built-in civilopedia contains what each unit requires. If it's not totally clear in the manual I'll explain it here:

Almost all tier one technologies (Cav Archers I, etc.) can be researched directly.

To get access to tier two technologies (Yari Ashigaru II, Samurai Archers II, etc.) you need to defeat the first tier in battle. For example you slay an enemy Yari Ashigaru I, that would (in theory) give you access to the technology to research the second tier technology.

                        Note two things:
                        1. You have to have the first tier to research the second tier--if there is a first tier technology.
                        2. It does happen that you may not be able to acquire the 'defeat' technology from defeating a tier one technology. This is a glitch in MGE and I've tried to use the events space to my best to fix it. For example, if you kill a Yari Ashigaru I but don't get the Yari Ashigaru I defeat tech, somebody else has killed a Yari Ashigaru I from that clan before you. The only way you can get it is if you are the first to kill a yari ashigaru I from a particular clan. Otherwise you don't.

Now tier three technologies and units work the same way with one catch:

The first clan/player to kill a tier two unit is the only one that will have access to the death technology and therefore the third tier unit. So it's to your advantage to pick fights with people who have tier two units on the chance that you'll be the first to slay that particular tier two unit and thus have access to the third tier.

Hope this clears things up. Wish I had a couple megabytes for the events, then I could really clean up the mess that the lack of a working Anybody flag creates...

Shimazu Samurai have peacefully entered Chikuzen. Overjoyed peasants presented their respects to the great Daimyo Shimazu.
Meanwhile, while paying his respects to his ancestors Daimyo Shimazu Takahisa, also known as "The Great Lion" has vowed war against one enemy throughout Japan: Dishonor. The Daimyo also vowed to protect the imperial city of Yamashira from those who would use it to further their own personal ambitions.
The Great Lion also pays his respects to the ancestors of the Imagwa family and of all honorable families in the islands, asking Amida to bless all.

The great lord Mori himself has encountered Takeda cavalrymen on his campaign in the southern provinces.
Lord Mori warns, that the Takeda soldiers best avert their sight from the rebel territories to the south, for they are an ancestral home to the Mori, and the lord will not stand other clans' usurping on his own territory.
May the spirits nad our wise lord Buddha watch upon you, Takeda san.
