All the problems I have experienced with trying to get PtW MP to work... I had to put PTW aside till next patch. Sucks this way, crashes on me even in SP sometimes.

Sadly, Civ 2 got to be the only civ game I'm not interested in playing online . For a civ 3 (when its fixed) or a ctp game, I'm happy to do it anytime... or maybe I will finally understand the good parts of Civ 2 now, several years after getting it?

Yes, we'll be happy to help you understand CIVII MP.
Many games are offered weekly. Just check the other threads. There are many good teachers here.

OMG, it will be fun if I'll get into this game... let me think, 4 years after I got it .

I admit I played Civ 2 FAR less than any other game in the genre, so I suck at it as much as one can suck.

Well I sincerely hope that when I get back to NZ and get a modem for my computer there will be enough ppl left to try it out with, and it won't be too oppressing an environment that I am driven out after my first MP game...

And will MP work with the Civfanatics MGE patch? I have the original game (v2,42, CiC and FW), but haven't seen the MP version in NZ so needed that upgrade.

I don't think the current civII MP groups are oppressive at all. We don't berate unexperienced players. We want them to learn and get more competetive to add as many potential players as possible. While there are still quite a few players, there are less than there used to be. SO we encourage new players as we kick the crap out of them. There are quite a few one night games started so you get a chance to learn without suffering months for a couple of mistakes.

                I can attest to this.

Hah... a couple? Except for the very first turns, I won't make a single thing right!

That's the point though. Make mistakes, get beat, try again another day. Eventually you learn something. FF has learned from his experiences. We've had some interesting border conflicts.

The only way to learn is to play... I've played many practice games with newbies where we look at each turn and discuss the decisions they are making. It usually helps

Ming is right......don't be swayed by a few threads where we seem to be bashing newbs......it turns out they asked for a bashing on several occasions.

you don't learn if you don't get beat, unless you make silly mistakes...

the game is no longer what it used to be for me, as the games are usually one night stands, and i like to think i have moved on in life

but i play with people who offer me the most enjoyment, skill level is something they can always work on.

however its nice to branch out and test other groups....

Right on about skill levels, as I have really picked up my game since starting to play over here...

The start is important (DUH) but how you crisis manage is the most important thing you can do. What you do when the Ferrets show up on your doorstep early in the game will tell you how your game goes.

More often then not, your ability to take an asskicking and smile will be an indicator of how much fun you have. I enjoy the game itself, which makes winning AND losing byproducts of the enjoyment. I don't necessarily LIKE to lose, but it doesn't bother me as much when I'm playing people who won't cry and complain when I manage to get a good lick on them.

I would suggest starting a couple of hotseat games by yourself to try and maximize your starts. I took this suggestion a while back and tried to perfect what I would do at the beginning of 2X production games.

If you are interested, add me to your ICQ and when I have time we could set up a duel.
