        Naval Battles around Iberia

To separate incidents have occured recently near territories still held by General AI between his loyalists and the British Navy. The first involved 2 light cruisers, one British, one Spanish, off the coast of still-pacified La Palma. The Loyalist ship was sunk by the British cruiser after a tought battle, it is now heading to port for repairs. The other involved the shelling of La Coruna by a British battlefleet, confirming earlier reports that such ships were heading that way.

Political Future Still Uncertain, Kirk Offers No Clear Statement

[b] Kirk raises questions over whether a nation can hold a valid claim and sell land which it does not hold. Upon hearing of Italy's plans to sell it's territories of Cartagena and Valencia, as well as rebel-held La Palma, cite of several recent naval battles between the British and AI, Kirk jokingly asked his ministers that if King Case could do that, then he has "A great deal on Rome for any interested bidders as well." A hearty laugh was shared, and then the Provisional Prime Minister went to bed.

          British Leader Rebuked

The Italian ambassador to Britain has called upon the British leader 'Doctor' Kirk to ask that he apologise for his recent comments on La Palma. Doctor Kirk was reminded that Italy has paid for the island with the blood of the Italian sailors killed during the opening phase of the liberation of Spain.

Doctor Kirk was further informed that the liberation of La Palma had had to be postponed because the Italian Navy's battleship squadrons had until recently been tied down in the Adriatic where they were required to counter the Austrian Fleet.

          Other news in brief:
          • Italian engineers complete railroad bridge near French city of Valence
          • Naples-Paris coal trains now running
          • King opens several new light industrial businesses across Italy

            • Press Release from 10 Downing Street

PM Kirk, did apoligize today for the rashness of his language to the Italians regarding La Palma, but made clear his point stands: One cannot sell land he does not hold. If there are no regular standards and procedures in this regard, then such cases become arbitrary and hold the potential for great problems. If we go by Italy's proclaimed standard "that Italy has paid for the island with the blood of the Italian sailors killed during the opening phase of the liberation of Spain," then Britain holds the same right to the island, as it's Navy had to hunt down the ships Italy negligently allowed to be built, maintained and patrol the coast of the Italian sphere. Perhaps then Italy owes Britain compensation for their negligence? Either way about it, the British government, as well as her citizens say that the Italian case for selling land she does not control is tedious at best.

Also, Kirk chided "King" Case for his apparent mocking of Kirk's doctorate, proclaiming that he wears his title with honor, as it shows that he had to work to get where he is today, rather than having his position in society and government annointed upon him at birth.

                  • The Guardian, Early Nov 1902

We at the Guardian have been able to get a hold of, from an unnamed government source, photos of a British cruiser patrolling near the Italian coast of Spain and finding a cruiser flying the flag of General AI's rebellious forces at the coast of Cartagena. We, along with the public at large, and many MPs of all parties are outraged that our sailors should be fighting and dying to make up for Italian carelessness in their sphere of influence. Many analysts say that La Palma is a hotbed of anarchist and immoral activity, and that rather than using our power to protect Italians from their own stupidity, the island should be seized without haste. We'll let our readers judge whether Italian feebleness is a justifyable cause for our brave sailors to lost their lives for.

A rebel cruiser spotted on the coast of Italian Spain, the second in months, sources say

A British cruiser approaches, shocked that such a ship could be allowed to be built and set sail

Not being fully prepared for the prospect of the existence of Spanish forces, Britain emerges victorious, but at the cost of thousands of British lives

For King (Case) and Country, indeed.

                    • Italian Foreign Office Press Statement

As has been previously explained to the British Government, Italy's failure to occupy La Palma is mainly due to the fact that no Italian battleships have been advailable to bombard the island. This is becuase the 3rd Fleet's battleship was sunk during an engagement with the Spanish battlefleet, and reinforcements were unadvailable due to the tense situation in the Adriatic.

In addition, humaritarian concerns also forced a hold on the invasion as untill recently La Palma was a 'size 1' city which would have been destroyed had it been occupied.

Despite what the British say, Italian ships have recently been fighting with General AI's forces. Indeed, the 8th Destroyer Flottilla is currently under repairs in Valencia harbour following a victory over a Spanish Destroyer squadon. As soon as these repairs are complete we will resume operations off La Palma. In addition, the 3rd Fleet (HQ Palmero) is being greatly reinforced with capital ships.

If Britain, the worlds premier maritime power, cannot sustain a simple blockade then the Italian government fears for the safety of the British people.

                            Russo-French deal takes place
During a ceremony today attended by both the Tsar and the French Premier, the city of Regensburg and its Bavarian environs were handed over to the Third Republic. In return, the French government invested some 600 gold in Russian industries, and French experts have been sent to Russia to teach some of Western Europe's more advanced knowledge.

The Premier announced that he believed the successful negotiations heralded 'a new age of co-operation and mutual understanding between our two nations.'

French scientists alarmed by rising temperatures
French scientists, analysing meteorological records for the past few centuries, have noticed a worrying trend of rising temperatures. They believe that this is connected with the increasing amount of polluted areas across Europe, fertile areas turned into wasteland through the by-products of nearby industry.

As the amount of pollution is only going to increase with the growth of industry in France and other nations, several French ministers have proposed an conference of representatives from all nations in Cologne which will discuss this problem. France, with a very small corps of civil engineers, cannot fight the growing amounts of pollution alone; already large tracts of the heavily industrialised Rhineland are polluted. Experts have noted that pollution has appeared in other countries as well. Thus the help of all nations must be enlisted if this menace is to be eradicated.

                              Italy Responds to Environmental Crisis

King Case has been shocked to learn the answer to his question 'is it hot, or is it just me?' is actually that the environment is heating up

As soon as he recovered from his shock the King issued the following statement for immediate distribution to the leaders of Europe:

                              "Colleagues,
My scientific experts advise me that ‘global warming’ is a threat far greater to Italy then any combination of armies could ever be! As Italy is still an underdeveloped nation I am pleased to report that none of this disastrous pollution has belched from the industries of Italy.
However, this does not mean that Italy will sit on her hands over this issue! In the interests of all Europe, Italy is willing to lend four of our most experienced engineering brigades to France or Russia so that they may repair this damage before it poisons us all."

The King has also asked the French Premier to halt his offencive in Spain so that the French army's engineers can be redeployed to combat the far greater menace of pollution.

                              • Kirk today asserted his support for the continent-wide 'War on Pollution' and reminded European leaders that it's not only necessary to be reactive and clean up current environmental disasters, but to take preventative measures to stop these disasters from occuring in the first place. "Technologies and infrastructure improvements that we build today will ensure our future prosperity and that of generations to come" Kirk was quoted as saying. A top team of environmental specialists are planning on to survey the current state of the environment in Europe and propose a comprehensive list of actions that need to be taken by governments later this month.

In responce to the criticism King Case of Italy had over the Guardian newpaper's stance over the Palma issue, the Guardians editorial board issued a short reply to Case's statement on Britain's role in Italy's colonial defence, which was as follows, "If Britain, the worlds premier maritime power, cannot sustain a simple blockade then the Italian government fears for the safety of the British people." The editorial board responded, "That was our point, an blockage or naval action in your so-called sphere of influence should not be left to us, our tax money, or our fighting men's lives. Italy's negligence to take control of what it considers it's own, regardless of whether they have the means to take control, should not be the problem of Britain. Nor should Italy be entitled to any land it cannot hold. This principle was set nearly twenty years ago at the Berlin Conference: Spheres of influence and control of territory can be recognized, but is meaningless unless the nation in question has the military means to prove their control, which Italy has utterly failed in doing."
