The influx of Italian small arms in southern Germany has put our own arms production in a surplus, but fortunately the commander of France's garrison at Arnhem has been considering refitting his troops with more modern weaponry.
After he offered a contract to the lowest bidder for 1,240 bolt-action rifles, the government-owned arms factories in Erfurt bought the contract and supplied the Arnhem garrison with brand new Mauser K.98's. Despite several injuries due to breech explosions, most of the men see them as an improvement over their antiquated Lebels.
