Boudicca does not see the Turks on this map...

If Markus Turkus had been a bit quicker he may have claimed some of Africa, as the Austrians have done in a most statesman-like manner.
Markus appears to be recognising the territorial claims of Queen Boudicca in Porta and Africa as well as the claims of the Austrians and Italians... BUT he is trampling on French claims. This is unacceptable to the world community, Boudicca believes.

Beware the wrath of Boudicca or Boadicea as she became known after laying waste to her enemies

It has been rumored that the english go well with a side dish of salad. Perhaps deep fried english, served with whine will feed the hungry Cannibal-Africa liberation division. We can only hope there are enough english cities to feed all the troops.

Open letter from King Ozzy II to all nations

It has come to attention of the French monarchy that the historic claim that the Kingdom of France hold over the territory known as Spain is being called into question by aggressive claims of a particular foreign power. The rights to this land extend from long held treaties with multiple powers, assuring this region of the continent safe for French colonization and settlement.

This area has been long kept secure for French expansion, and due to the current over crowding in the French motherland this land is in desperate need. An initiative fully supported by my government to finally settle this unused portion of land is currently underway and within a few short years this wild land will be tamed by intrepid French pioneers.

It is clear to my nation that the Turkish claim is an action of DIRECT HOSTILITY. Treaties are made and agreed upon all over Europe, and currently the entire continent is carved up and promised to the member nations. While it seems obvious that not all 7 nations need to explicitly agree to every deal struck it should be equally obvious that all non-local powers with no vested interest in a deal made far from their borders have no claim to such treatied property. Therefore the Turks CANNOT and DO NOT have any claim whatsoever to the region of Spain considering it is claimed under treaty by France.

It cannot be stressed enough the seriousness of the Turkish claim. Any settlements by the Turkish nation in land under treaty to France without the explicit approval of France and her allies will be regarded as an act of War.

This issue is of utmost importance, not only to France and its allies but to the rest of Europe as well. As rational leaders we all want peace for our nations, any disruption of the current state of peace has dire implications for the rest of the world, as wars tend to spread. The apparent disregard the Turks have shown for existing treaties again poses negative implications for other nations, if a rogue state has been shown not respect existing treaties and land agreements there is no reason for any treaty around the globe to have any special significance for such a nation. Agreements between all nations whether close by with Austria-Hungary and Russia or far away in the Scandinavia region between Britain and Germany, ALL treaties are at risk if we allow an infringement upon one current treaty.

I, King Ozzy II, call upon the continent to publicly condemn the hostile Turkish action and make it clear that any attempts to seize or settle land promised another nation will be dealt with harshly by the European community.

        Signed,

        King Ozzy II of France

After extensive research famous French cartographer, Randel McNalleau has complied the first political map of the continent.

Solid areas are current settlements of each nation.

Striped areas are areas claimed by each nation.

That map isn't very accurate, but it does give a good general impression of the state of things.

Well it seems we've got a bunch of critics in the game. Well i'm working on another map to reflect changes after this session, i'm also going to be a bit more stringent than last time, last time i took more liberties and filled in more space, so expect some countries to loose some land in the next version. I'll also put in the islands and other areas you all suggest.

Since i'm anal and i like doing these things, i'll just do a map after every session. One thing i had wanted to do for awhile is get a whole string of these things and at the end of the game create an animation like they had at the end of civ 1, that'd be great i think.

The German Kaiser expresses his regrets for not attending this forum on a more regular basis to share the desires and hopes of the German people with the peoples of Europe.

Good news! The people of Jutland have built a state-of-the-art astronomical observatory to study the vault of Heaven. Johannes Kepler has accepted the Kaiser's offer to chart the solar system and all objects with a magnitude greater than 5 on the famous scale bearing his name.

Our western neighbors, the English, and the German people have agreed to a highly profitable free trade agreement. Our allies to the south, the Austrians, have also accelerated trade with the German people.

                        Have a nice day

The the ghost of the most Christian Sun King, Louis XIV of France comes back to haunt the Palace of Versailles.

I falsley believed that the great King Louis would live forever, but alas...my life was cut short thanks to a nasty case of syphylis contracted from one of my chamber maidens. It's always the pretty ones.....

Luckily, the Bourbon dynasty was successfully continued from my son Ozzy I to my grandson Ozzy II. Receive my blessing and continue the Bourbon legacy with unhampered expansion and prosperity. The spirit of Louis XIV will be with France always as a monument to the French nation state as well as a warning to others of the ills of polygamy.

Leave those wenches alone my boy and keep your mind on the task of state craft. Keep an eye on those infidel Turks, I attempted to establish cordial relations with those unworthy dogs but it is obvious that they plot against the kingdom of France.

Remember who your friends are King Ozzy II of France. The British and the Italians should give you no trouble, I have always had pleasant and constructive relations with these peoples.

Make me proud young Ozzy II! May the spirit of Louis be with you!

In the real world? Corsica has been French since the 18th century. Before that, it passed through lots of hands, including Italian. Sardinia has been through as many hands. In the 6th Century it was part of the Byzantine empire. It later passed through Spanish and French hands. It's been Italian since very early in the 18th century.

In our civ world? They're Italian.

Taken from "Badecker's History of the Austrian Civilization"

During the period 260-560 the Austro-Hungarian Empire expanded rapidly. From twenty regions the empire expanded to twenty-seven during this period (including the new overseas colony in Algeria). The regions remained individually autonomous, in order that the constituent imperial minorities (Slavs and Magyars) would not seek their complete independence. Indeed, the Magyars were well integrated into the empire at this time, as the greatest city of the empire was in fact Budapest, even though Vienna was the capital.

All this was to change, however. In 554 AD insurgents under the influence of democratic ideas from Germany seized control of the region of Budapest and proclaimed a "Declaration of the Rights of Man," initiating a tumultuous Reign of Terror through the whole empire. Meanwhile, the knowledge of economic science had made headway in Austrian schools due to the influence of the Turks.

The Golden Age of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was over, as the last monarch, Franz Josef, was seized in Vienna and executed. Since 560 AD, the Austro-Hungarian civilization has been under the influence of Jacobinism, for better or for worse.
