    @POTUS

    We crushed France around this time in Naples. We're the biggest power, not yet so powerful as under Philip the II, but no one did stand before us .

    And we were not yet unified (Navarra was annexed in 1504!)

        For some reason, I remember that Isabella and Ferdinand almost went bankrupt paying for Columbus' first voyage.

        And, I didn't know that about Navarra. In all the books in the New World, they say 1483 the Christian kingdoms were unified, 1492, the Muslims lost their last kingdom in Iberia.

          I believe Isabella dug into her own pocket to finance the first voyage.

            Because Spain didn't have enough money, or because she believed in him, but the rest of Spain didn't?

              I think it was because Ferdinand didn't believe it, and they had to decide together or something, so she funded him out of her own pocket. I think she sold a lot of jewellry or something, and that's why Columbus was so addicted to Isabella.

                  There were five kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsule in 1483: Portugal, Aragon, Castille, Navarre, Granade; all were christian but Granade. They kings of Navarre and Castille married, conquered Granade in 1492 and Navarre in 1504 (by that time Isabella was died)

                  I'll play in a few minutes.

                              June 28th in the Year of Our Lord 1500:

                              Our voyage begins today, as we set sail with a strong gale east by north. Comissioned by Her Majesty herself, we bear her most secret instructions to be opened on the High Seas once we have cleared the coast of Ireland. My first instructions are to sail west, and to use our cargo to settle the New World so recently discovered, to open up new lands for British trade and ships, to forge for England an Empire.

                              The sea is tranquil, and the wind strong, and our enterprise commences with great auspices. Already the Queen has ordered that new colonists will soon depart from the docks in England in our wake, so that we may establish the first outposts of England in the New World, as well as in Africa and India.

                              May the Lord watch over us, and protect us from the elements.

                              PLEASE don't zip the save Kobra!

                                A fleet under the command of Pedro Alvares Cabral has set it's course towards the new world.
