  • White City Grid in 2.4.2

    G'day,

I recently (ie yesterday) upgraded my old version of civ2 from 1.02 to 2.4.2. I always used to play the game with the grid on, but now when I have it on it shows a white city grid around each of my cities in addition to the normal balck grid overlayingh the map.

I would like to know if this can be turned off somehow - I still want to play with the black map grid, but find the white city grid annoying...

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance...

The game comes (came?) with an alternate graphic file to eliminate the white grid. I don't recall which one it is, but explore, double click the *.gif files in the main Civ2 directory. You should find one with and one without the white grid. Hopefully someone else will be able to tell you exactly which file it is...

The file is icons.gif and the offending white lines are seen to the lower left of the file ... you can use your favourite graphics editor to copy the black outline over the white outline to its right - or like M le Marquis I suspect this has been done somewhere - have you looked in the Directory here at 'polly?

        Cheers for the info guys!

I'm on my way now to check out the downloads... otherwise I'll give the old editor a whirl this evening!

          A little late, but still...

I think this was an extra file in the 2.42 patch. The icons file without the city radius outline is called "iconsb.gif". The one with the outlines is icons.gif. So simply rename iconsb.gif to icons.gif (and rename icons.gif to something else, or remove it entirely, if you wish).

            Thanks guys...

Yeah, I ended up using the iconsb file - went in to do some editing and thought the iconsb file looked like what I wanted, so renamed it and it worked a treat!

I just can't believe how long it took me to go to 2.42 - nce to see the heralds properly (even on my archaic device I call a PC)...
