  • Now haven't we been a busy chappy? I think comrade STYOM that a full accounting before the PolitBuro is needed, you do seem to have taken an 'interesting' view of the future direction of our glorious State.
Overall, I feel that only a modest period of re-education at the StickyMouse Institute will be required, but changing the name of our capital - now that might well call for a greater penalty ...

    Good game STYOM

    • Naming our capital 'Global Peace' and making such a nice use of our glorious red army just after that is a very good idea. (congrats STYOM)

I suggest that one city should be renamed GitIsWise, another one (preferably close to the canal) StraybowIsWise, ...and so on (except perhaps LaFayetteIsWise, because anyone knows that already and it should be considered a pleonasm).
Anyway, the names of all the wise leaders of our 'peaceful' civ sure deserve to be remembered throughout the centuries.

I fully agree... I ran out of good puns somewhere between "Pol Pottsville" and "Suez sur Oldfart"

Anyhoo, 'ChairmanIsWise' applies to whoever happens to be in charge at that point... just like in the real world

(STYOM looks in vain for a cynical smilie, re: real world )

But we're going in every direction and winning easily. Is it the 2.42 AI so much weaker than MGE or the work of our combined and somehow compatible genius
Funny you should mention that. I'm actually playing a large map, 2.4.2 game on Deity in which my civ (although in Demo) looks almost identical to our Mad empire, in terms of scientific advancement, population, year, and civ size.

(to JB - I'm not sure if this is something I should be bragging about, or not! )

Anyway, same old 2.4.2... but in my game the AI has been quite competitive in building wonders and most of the AIs have a dozen or more cities. Not that I'm going to lose or anything , but I think we may have lucked into a lazy AI in our Mad game. Either that or we are confusing them with all our crazy schem... errrrr... I mean, combined genius!

              • d/l a few hours ago; just now taking a look. I hate having everything renamed… don't know where the heck anything is anymore. Make me feel like Alzheimers is kicking in.

The AI did OK with the Spanish and the Celts, but the others were saddening. The Babs could've expanded across the gulf to the north, the Mongols were neither ICSing nor competitive science-wise, and the Vikes had room to expand North and West but didn't.

And if not you can always rename them again; I kind of saw that coming

                    • These turns get long…

1766 Comrade STYOM is sent to Sticky Mouse to spend time chopping
–––– down trees. A group of Engineers is created just for him.
–––– We are Communists, not bloodthirsty Stalinist aparatchyks.
–––– Various city names restored or otherwise changed to reflect our
                      –––– generous economic freedoms, etc.
–––– Some changes are made—why are we building a Factory in Kashgar,
                      –––– a size 4 city? I suppose a city wall in ScouseHolme can't hurt,
–––– whereas changing to a unit would sacrifice many shields. A few
–––– cities are to produce more Engrs to finish rail links, etc.
1768 Tactics discovered. What to do? Flight kills Colossus, Mag
–––– kills Lighthouse. Amp gives us Marines, Gue gives us Partisans.
–––– We also discover from STYOM's complete physical that he really
–––– is a Six Thousand Year Old Man (give or take a couple hundred
–––– years ). The opportunity to study Genetics and find a cure
–––– for cancer presents itself, and while STYOM would gladly undergo
–––– whatever pokings and proddings for the good of the people, we
–––– shall delay that. We could also study a strange theory that
–––– matter is made of odd building blocks assembled into "atoms."
–––– What good can that do? Guerrilla Warfare it is.
–––– Barbs invade coast of Whalebane & Mar del Plata. All but the
–––– leader & escort dispatched with a couple of Cavalry with
–––– Riflemen to cover their flanks in the open ground.
1770 Not much going on. Ship more units over to Spain to discover
–––– locations of 2 cities, including the new Capital at Saragossa.
–––– Clumsy Celt espianage thwarted in Carmarthen. Barb 150.
–––– Barb Musketeers repelled at Tight Passage.
1772 Vikes offer cease-fire; taken. Celt Dip expelled. Barb 150.
–––– Malaga is discovered on the Gulf of Caernarfon, northward from
                      –––– Madrid.
1774 Vikes break cease-fire; no surprise. Knights charge foolishly
–––– into the muzzles of our Enfield .303s and soldiers of Roskilde
–––– have fresh horse meat to add to their diet. Yum!
–––– Saragossa is discovered on the long peninsula across from
–––– WineShop. Settlers near Malaga bribed for 242 to annoy Izzy.
–––– Celt spying continues turn by turn.
1776 Partisans now available; given only Amp and Ato I choose Amp.
–––– The Spanish sally forth from Saragossa, routing some Riflemen
–––– with the sheer bravado of their heavy lance charge. Our Spy
–––– has infiltrated the Royal Court, and a slighted noble exacts
–––– revenge by allowing our troops to destroy the gatehouse. The
–––– Royal Musketeers fend off our special forces unit attempting
–––– to ski in through the forests. Our forces gather.
–––– A second Settlers is bribed near Malaga for 296, and then the
–––– city itself for a palty 160. Cadiz comes even cheaper at 136.
–––– Isabella sues for peace, but the Politburo has agreed to end
–––– the conflict with Spain permanently
1778 Saragossa withers in the face of two determined cavalry charges
–––– and a crack battalion of Suez Oldfart soldiers; now size 1.
–––– A small army progresses around the back side of the Vikings.
–––– Engineers begin to connect Sarzanagrad by the "correct" route
–––– through the mountains; Erie routes are +10, Sarz rts +5
1780 Vikings and Celts sign the "Kaupung Pact," but we shall see
–––– whose agression is contained. Inc-rush a few things.
–––– Gold from ScouseHolme to Cardiff 588; +12 (3rd rt was +6 Wool)
1782 Horse meat on the menu at Roskilde; Sarzanagrad routes now +8
1784 Elephant meat on menu in Roskilde; Hladir captured; Ceasefire.
–––– Coal from Panama II to ScouseHolme 100; +10 in Panama II
–––– Copper from Ur to ScouseHolme 44; +5 for Ur (see notes)
–––– Set a couple Engrs to carve a direct route to SH from Ur
1786 Celts demand Physics then refuse to pay tribute. Ingrates.
–––– Vikes declare war. Armies advance; Clads squish a couple Cats.
–––– Lost a couple Spies trying to sabotage Cardiff.
–––– Sarzanagrad Copper to Trondheim for 128. Trade rts with SH rise
–––– to +11 with proper rail link. Time to build a Bank!

                        • Sorry it took a while, but I had to work Sat night and do some sleeping this afternoon. I managed to keep my eyes open long enough to finish my go, but not long enough to log on and post the results.

OK, I mentioned "notes" in the AAR. Straybowgrad Wool is demanded in Whalebane (5 trade), which supplies Beads demanded by Straybowgrad (8 trade). Distance is greater than 22 by road; 21 as the crow flies. The bonus is 36 gold. Does the return demand add value?

ScouseHolme delivers Gold to Cardiff. Cardiff supplies Copper, which is demanded by SH. Two turns later Ur makes a Freight. SH shows up as demanding Copper. Once my movement phase begins suddenly SH Copper demand is already filled, quick cheat says Cardiff had Copper route with SH immediately in 1780. Why the 2 turn delay filling demand at SH? Why did it happen after the build phase?

                              • Straybow defends his reign

When my go started only one city (Erie) had a proper road connection to ScouseHolme, much less rail!! I repent to the Committee that I should have seen to this problem even sooner, and could have sent a few Engrs to that task instead of continuing the Transforming around ScouseHolme.

With a proper rail connection any city in Scousia gets +9 trade for a route to SH just from SH's 73 trade, +2.5 of that from Colossus. Without connection it is only +4 (or +5 if the city has 7 arrows). Each of 18 cities (counted from Persepolis down) has at least 2 routes to SH, so that means we were losing out on about 150-200 or more trade every turn!

I urge my successor to retain me as Chief Engineer to oversee all the road and rail construction. But if you desire to exile me to Sticky Mouse, my files are complete and with able supervision the task should be finished in short order.
