      Sometimes I scare myself.

I just realized that I could download the Apolyton scenario here at work (shhhh) and email it to my home address. Done. Tonight we battle!

BTW, Marquis, what do you mean by non-CIC?

Just the saved game when you receive it. As the initiator, I had to have something with which to start. I am curious as to what people are referring to when they say post the games (not the logs) here. Never mind. I just saw the "attach file" box at the bottom.

                Treachery?

Marquis just 'pmed' me about this thread.
Of course I would paint a red cross on my T-shirt with great pleasure, but I suppose it's too late now (some kind of treachery by my allies of the southern alliance?).
Never mind, it seems that there are enough scenarios left to keep me busy day and night until civ3.
Have a nice time guys (and of course, if it isn't too late, I'm with you, so as to make it a 5 countries game ).

                  The Crusades!

Why do I feel like Monty Python?!?! This is insane!! As much as I love the Lord, let the infidels have the Holy Land!! Lord have mercy, the cup is half empty and draining fast!

For better or worse, we have dived into the Apolyton version of the Crusades. The graphics are superb but the change in units, wonders, advances, et al is staggering. And the distance from England to the Holy Land might as well be measured in light years and charted by star dates! Eh bien. Into the breach.

Before we even had a chance to move, the Turks took three Byzantine cities (worthless Byzantinians!) Well, I guess that’s what we’re here for, n’est-ce pas? To help them.

The scenario takes 196 turns of 1 year each. I’m only going to play about 10 turns so I can pass this on to the next person and then take some time to gather my wits.

In the year of our Lord 1095 AD, the mighty nation of England, blessed among people of the world, took up the challenge and began to point forward to a crusade, a Great Crusade, to free the Holy Land from the infidels and return it to its intended purpose, the worship of the one true God.

Minor decisions were made in productivity within our English cities in preparation for this mission. It is our prayer that these decisions will bear good fruit.

In this same year, cultural exchanges were made with the neighboring nations of Byzantine, the Holy Roman Empire, and France. As a result of this, we gained a knowledge of Diplomacy, Engineering, Infantry Tactics, Banking, and Chivalry. This was deemed worthwhile and necessary as our quest for knowledge among ourselves was a most pitiful one advance every 246 turns!

1096 came and went. The winter was mild, the summer hot. And it was decided to train two missionaries for the purpose of converting Cardiff and Edinburgh to the English way of life. England for the English!!
                  And another Byzantine city falls.

1097 and the French have taken Jerusalem.

1098 saw much fighting among the nations.

1099 and Cardiff and Edinburgh were converted!!! Troops landed on the continent and began the long and arduous journey on this Great Crusade. May the Lord bless them and keep them.

1100 saw the Byzantines lose yet another city. Additionally, our troops travelling overland are finding no safe havens along the way. While this is a Great Crusade, the people we are encountering on our journey are no help whatsoever.

1101 and 1102 have seen a war with the French, a peace with the French, two lost units along the way, and war with the Holy Roman Empire. Don’t these people realize were trying to help them!!!!

                  ****

I give up! Eight turns and I stink! Good luck Rasputin. And good luck to me in trying to attach the game.

                      Yikes!!!

London has an offshore platform and can build submarines!!

I guess that means we need to d/l the scenario - if I have it right we are talking about "The Great Crusade" by Joel Andre which is available here: http://csc.apolyton.net/zips/crusades.zip

For those unfamiliar with the process:-

create a subdirectory below your Civ2 MP folder - I chose -\Civ2MP\scenarios\Succession Crusade but the name is immaterial as long as you can find it again

d/l the above file into the new folder and unzip using WinZip or similar - if any one does not have or is unhappy using a zip utility I can post the unzipped files for you --

the save game should then be unzipped into the chosen directory and opened as usual by Civ2 - you should then have the all singing all dancing version

                      ____________________

The above all posted before I've done it myself - if I hit any problems I shall post again ...

                        Success!

Yes that does it - I can certainly confirm that the graphics are magnificent - but all these new units, techs and Wonders - this is going to be a toughy.
My first thought is to buy up the North - its all nice Barbarian territory and should provide a fairly impressive power base and standing army, but it is you guys at the helm - the joys of Succession Games ...
kc please include LaFayette - we will definitely need a scenario specialist and I think you did right by only taking ten turns - should we make that the maximum?
                        Good Luck all

[Aside added in edit: We are playing at "Son of God" level! Don't panic it's only Deity, but the scenario changes even this!]

                          There goes the crusade

Well i loaded it all up and it looks great, but there is a tale of woe to come.

1103 All of Europe decides it hates English and decalres war agaisnt us. All our troops in France are slaughtered in surprise attacks. English citys all in revolt
1104-1114 Didnt get to do much, just trying to sail a few knightsd around the warzone in Europe.

Quite boring reaaly , not sure if its because I suck or not, but I dont thin kthe crusade has started too well.

Is this incredible or what? Perhaps the only way to help out in the endeavour will be to sail around the coast and into the Mediterranean. With any luck, we should arrive there in time for the American revolution.

I'll add La Fayette to the list above. Maybe he can save the day.

I guess I'm up next. I'll have to download everything from home tonite, send the little ones to bed, and kill infidels! I actually have a fair amount of scenario experience, tho not with this or other crusades...

Let's see, everyone on the continent hates the english, and kills them on sight. Footie hooligans, perhaps?

For what its worth, my three ha'p'orth is that it is a mistake to try and follow history - with the Great Powers solidly against you there is little chance of forcing a path through Europe to the Middle East. The long term aim would be World Conquest, but in the short term consolidate and trade aggressively whilst converting the heathen Barbarians to the true Faith of England.

I have tried this out this afternoon and have currently (1112) bought Cardiff, Edinburgh, Dublin, Viborg & Oslo. Have maintained alliances with the Byzantines and the French and an uneasy peace with the Holy Roman Empire - basically tried not to speak to them and give tham whatever they demand when they force a conversation. From these bases the eventual conversion of Ireland and Scandinavia is now certain and an expedition to Iberia is planned. Typical trade bonus is in excess of 170g for demanded commodities to destinations in continental Europe, once the home cities run out of trade goods it will be time to build barracks and start developing a serious invasion force - if I can get Navigation (by trade bonus) that will allow the building of an Armada and the target will be whichever of Damascus, Rome or Paris is most tempting at that stage of the game - since by then the English Hegemony will be hurting with unhappiness.

                                End of three ha'p'orth ...

Raz, have you e-mailed the game to the Marquis? or are you going to post it in this thread?
