Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
In 147bc, king Markee stepped to the throne. A fierce storm blew in, lightning lashed the palace, the rainy wind blew out all the candles. The new king was unable to look at the map of the empire, unable to read the plans his generals had laid before him! Finally, after a day of tallow dipping, enough candles were supplied for the king to continue the great game...
King Markee found that he had inherited a grand empire, the strongest in the world! However, much of the world was still despoiled by the foul stench of foreigners. They must be sent to the depths of the underworld! Brave Macedonians continued to join the ranks in search of glory.
In honor of his predecessor, the king completed the purge of Syrians from mesopotamia. The last mediterranean strongholds saw their fate, and succumbed to the lure of bountiful macedonian gold. The once mighty Syrian empire had been chased across the eastern mountains, but the macedonian forces would not rest! They poured over the mountains in search of more syrian blood. After a short seige, the capitol Ecbatana fell into our hands. Within days, several other cities capitulated, avoiding a bloody fate in exchange for gold. Now the syrians are left with no capitol and a handful of cities somewhere in the east.
In 135bc, the wise men came to the king, informing him that there was just nothing left to learn. The king ordered the closing of numerous Schools of Philosophy, and retired the wise men with generous pensions and nubile young personal assistants.
It is now 132bc. King Markee adds his name to the ages, retiring to his wine estate in the hills outside Tarsos. He leaves his successor with the world's mightiest army and coffers full of gold.
The foolish rulers of Egypt are getting heady, trying to sneak an emissary into our lands. The border is strong, we have little to fear. We have begun efforts to strengthen our navy, as the future wars will likely require power on the waves.

May I suggest that any leader of the glorious Macedonians also gets one of these when he retires (... not necessarily the pension )

As my previous signature suggested - "Staring with shock and horror at the Empire is half of the fun of Succession Games!"
Who sacked Rhodes?
Come on - own up - will the gentleman that reduced the Empire's income by > 100ta per turn please take a bow - so that I might decapitate him
I thought I was billed as the 'Rabid Warlike Rodent' - but you guys put me to shame.

OK - how should I play it - go for broke down the Path of War or rebuild the economy so that the next team has an easier ride?
In fairness the exchequer is quite bouyant and there is an adequate ballance of payments - but it can be improved.
You know these scenarios bring out the perfectionist in me - I really like celebrating cities with minimised corruption and suitable multipliers in place - and then this firm economic engine drives the war machine forward.
5 turns each is OK in the endgame in order to avoid boredom.
IMO 10 or 15 is OK now, since it gives you the possibility to harvest some nice results of your own brilliant strategy .
(of course I'm not talking about sacking Rhodes )

No, La Fayette, your innocence has been determined - I back-tracked the saves to locate the evil-one - he will shortly be receiving a visit from a pair of well built Carthaginian Tax Inspectors who shall be asking difficult questions with the aid of heated tongs.
OK - I shall see just how far I can get this w/e RL permitting, of course.

King Markee sacked Rhodes! It was in the way. Besides, a ship could have emerged and sunk one of our merchant vessels. Call it insurance against such attacks. You wouldn't want to see 140 shields sink to the bottom, after all.
As for the 100g/turn, pah. The good king added another 12 cities to the empire, netting us far more than 100g in taxes each turn. As for trading, there are still foreign island cities aplenty! The economy is doing fine.

When conquest calls, le marquis answers. Like ink spilled on the map, his borders expand, absorbing all in the way...

I'd love to, but no MGE I know, I know, I should upgrade. Even if for no other reason than to take pressure off Julius B to play his Invasion turns
But besides, it seems there is ample conflict in this game already (Rhodes)

I don't know whether you keep turn by turn saves as I do M le Marquis - but it would be interesting to see the actual change on the F1 screen before and after Rhodes was sacked - IIRC something like 75% of the Empire's trade routes went to Rhodes ...
Ah well - we have a saying, "Don't cry over spilled milk"
what's this talk about sacking rhodes?
is it possible to 75% of our empires
trade routes to go to rhodes?
and other question. what was the idea
for the player before marquis de sodaq
not to conquer all the cities near tarsos
but to conquer cities further away?
(really wondering why)
My Words Are Backed With Bad Attitude And VETERAN KNIGHTS!
It was certainly a good idea for La Fayette to delay the conquest of Antioch by a few turns - it gave the Syrians a chance to build 'The Great Port' there - a useful wonder - particularly if someone else pays for it
