  • Why do AI turns take so long?

I've noticed that, later in the game, waiting for the AI to finish its' turns can take forever. Why is that? Is that normal? Is there any way to speed things up? I really can't see playing through a game if I'm inevitably going to get to the point where I'm mostly just sitting and waiting. Does anyone else experience this?

Go into game options, select show computer optonants turns, and turn it off.

      Turning off "show opponents move"

I don't know about your version but in everyone I've ever used, original gold, the 2.42 upgrade, "no-limits" civ2.exe, turning off the "show opponents move" doesn't stop the computer from showing me the opponents moves. In fact, I see no difference in having it on or off.

The reason that it's so slow is because off all those damn moves which are graphic related and take time that the computer does. It takes over 40 seconds when a horde of Barbarians with 18 units pops up in the middle of my civ during the latter stages of the game. The Barbarian partisans move 3 or 5 squares (depending on the game/scenario) and each one takes time, oh so much time.

Actually, I'm aware of that setting, but this doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm not seeing movement of enemy units, but I'm getting a lot of "We love the ... day" messages. If I turn those off, will that help?

WLT_D messages do not occur the AI turn, but in the start of yours. If you do not particularly care which cities are newly celebrating this turn and which ones aren't, definitely turn off that message set.

Hold down SHIFT during the AI´s turn, that should speed things up. Everything´ll fly by, except the battles.
