      • This is ridiculous! I have no time this weekend, but I'm willing to download the most recent version save and play 20 turns the weekent of Oct. 19. Would anybody object to that? Or wouldsomebody else like to make the same pledge?

          • Yes, do it Rufus. I agree wholeheartedly
I've just come back from holidays and I was ready to suggest something like what you proposed.
I'm the only one to have played my turn in this 3rd phase and I'm tired of running after people, see the last few pages. So, whoever proposes himself to play, plays next. Rufus, Thoddy and ??? And it shall become the new order
Let's show those earthmen of what planet we are really from

            • good news, bad news

Good news for me, bad for the game: my weekend has filled up with social obligations.
Bad news for me, good for the game: next Tuesday my wife leaves town for a week, leaving me to single-parent our daughter and spend my evenings alone.
I'll begin playing Tuesday, and finish asap. If anyone wants to get to it before that, let me know.

should we use xaos against the "fungi" humans or not. There is a little difference. :evilgrin

                        • ...and so it begins

30 years after he left office, and aging though still spry Rufus T. Firefly was coaxed out of retirement, away from his comely-if-zaftig former intern (now the second Mrs. Firefly), to assume again the presidency of The Empire Nobody Wanted.

Upon taking office, scientists informed Firefly that the nations of the planet "Earth" seemed to be working on interstellar space travel at an incredible rate, while our own empire -- in spite of having the requisite technology -- was content to build factories and sewer systems. The priority was clear: get to Earth before the Earhlings reached AC! This was to be the sole priority of the Firefly administration...though events would soon add another.

1901 - Superconductor discovered; many factories and power plants rush-built.
1902 - Spanish launch! Due to arrive in 1918. Alien spaceship construction begun.
1903 - Americans launch! Due to arrive in 1919. Environmentalism discovered; science funding lowered to 10% in anticipation of rush-building our ship.
1907 - English launch! Due to arrive in 1923. Stealth discovered; science lowered to 0% (discovery every 13 turns ) in a final push to get our ship into space.
1910 - Russians launch! Due to arrive in 1927. German spaceship destroyed. Modules rushbuilt for completion next turn, and science raised back to 20 or 30%.
1911 - Our spaceship is launched! We'll arrive on Earth in 1918, just moments before the Spanish arrive on AC. Genetic Engineering discovered.

Around 1908, Pres. Firefly began to be concerned that the Earthlings would arrive in just ten years, and the Alien Empire was woefully ill-defended -- all cities were without fortifications, and most lacked any military at all! Our millenia of peaceful isolation had left us weak. Thus, as the spaceship neared completion, he began an empire wide civil defense program, diverting all available resources into city fortifications and the drafting of Chon-ee military defense units. This project was in full swing, though little had been actually completed, by the time he retired at the beginning of 1911.

In 1911, our population is 69,000,000; we're getting discoveries every 2 turns and netting ~2000g/turn.

                          Good luck Thoth
