  • Rufus, the saved game works fine for me. What version of ToT do you have. You should install my no-limits add-on (avalaible at Apolyton or that I can send to you). It could be the problem.
And sorry to ask, but did you put the saved file in the extended original folder ?

    • Good, I am glad it works. Yeah, I had to ask for the folder.
I agree with you on our difficult situation. But this is not desesperate. It's really bad about the wonders though. But we shall do some earth-shopping pretty soon. Good luck Rufus !

      • I suppose you had to ask about the folder thing Julius, but no; the problem was that I had never installed patch 1.1! Having done so, I'm ready to rock (though that hardly seems the word for our current position).

1851 and we're only researching magnetism? And we've got all of two wonders? This is going to be interesting -- in that Chinese curse sense of the term.

Game sent to Rufus. You may play between 10 and 20 turns. Good luck ! We're not in the strongest of a position. But it should be sufficient to win in the long run.
Thot, can you confirm that you want to join, too ?

          • In 1851, newly-elected Consul Rufus T. Firefly years developed a 4-point agenda that could be summed up in one word -- "more": more people; more cities; more income; and more scientific advance more quickly. Beyond these goals, the appalling corruption in cities on the edge of the empire led Firefly to desire to replace the ancient Republic with a modern Democracy, so that the old wealthy elite would relinquish their seats in the Senate in favor of men and women who would be instead the lapdogs of the old wealthy elite. After consulting the ancient Scrolls of Odeo, he decided 1855 would be a good year for this change; and so it was.

Judged by his own goals, the Firefly presidency would appear to be a success. By the time he retired in 1871, the population of the Alien Empire had more than doubled, from 9,980,000 to 21,430,000; 16 new cities had been founded, and Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Zoot Suit, Be Bop, and Almost Blue in particular were beginning to flourish. The net income of the empire doubled (from 121g per annum to 233g), while the rate of scientific discovery had been halved (from four years to two). Magnetism, the Steam Engine, Metallurgy, Railroad, Industrialization, Electricity, Electronics, and the Corporation had all been discovered; a breakthrough on Atomic Theory was expected in 1872, and space flight before the end of the century seemed possible. The only disappointment of his tenure was the continued loss of wonders, as the "Americans" built the SETI Project and discovered the Cure for Cancer, while the "Spanish," more distressingly, built the Manhattan Project. As he retired to the recently founded resort town of Duck Soup, then, he must have rued the fact that history would remember none of this, and would recall only his walk-in humidor and his comely, if zaftig, intern.

Game sent to Julius and Scouse Git in one piece of e-mail, Thoth in another (I only just saw his reply). Good luck Thoth!

              • Thanks Julius! The situation doesn't actually seem that dire, and might be less so if those nukes start flying down below . It would be interesting to see whether, after the long game of catch-up, we end up building Apollo after all! And me, I teach media studies at a university in Turkey, though I'm originally from the States.

                      Will do.

The reign of Thoth proved to be a profitable one. Continuing the campaign of development started by Rufus, only three cities were founded (Slime Pit, Whut? and Huh?). A small army of engineers were constructed to improve the land for our rapidly expanding cities. Many freight and much infrastructure were completed during the Thoth years. Population has increased to 55, 800, 000
and our net income is now 890g per turn, with advances every turn.

Atomic Theory, Refining, Steel, Combustion, Automobile, Refrigeration, Conscription, Chivalry, Leadership, Fundamentalism, Tactics, Amphibious Warfare, Machine Tools, Mobile Warfare, Miniturization, Comunism, Espionage, Mass Production, Recycling, and Nuclear Fission were all completed by 1891. Nuclear Power is expected in 1892.

Pollution is starting to become a problem, but several mass transits have been rushbuilt, and others are under construction to be completed by my sucessors.
