Does anyone know what is the signal to make the throne room come up? It seems to come up at odd times, and I've never been able to link it to anything specific that's happening in the game.
An interesting question that I suspect will remain unanswered as very few of us play with this feature enabled - out of curiosity - does anyone know???
Well according to the manual and it seem to match what I've seen, since I do play with it on, as you make significant discoveries or reach milestones in the development of your Civ. These might be Wonders built or captured, Civs destroyed or peace treaties and alliances.
For the first 4 turns or so you should get a chance to improve it every turn. After that it depends on how well you have impressed your citizens with your concern for their welfare.
Well, all the times I layed it, it happens a lot at the start of the game.
Though I've never really kept notes on it, just keep luxuries high, have few wars, if you do have wars make sure your cities are not attacked or captured, and build every wonder you can...
Das Wasser soll dein Spiegel sein
Erst wenn es glatt ist, wirst du sehen
Wieviel Märchen dir noch bleibt
und um Erlösung wirst du flehen.
The water shall be your mirror
Only when it's smooth you will see
How much fairy-tale is left for you
And you will beg for deliverance.
The throne room improvements occur when your score passes certain milestones. These milestones differ for different difficulty levels, but if you play at king with rageing hordes of barbies, you will get 3-4 improvements at the beginning of your game, one per turn.
One specific trigger (at least at Deity level) is Wonders -- every wonder you build results in 2 turns of throne-room improvements.
Has anyone else noticed that the graphics seem to be out of order in the beginning -- the floors and stonework seem to get cruder for the first two iterations and the alcove behind the throne doesn't change at all the first time you select it.
I presume the graphics files were misnamed at some point (unless it's unique to my copy). It bugs me in a low-grade way ... anyone know how where the Throne Room graphics live?
They roam in the "pv.dll" (you can use GifX to extract/edit the images). It's been a very long while since I last used the throneroom thingy. I don't I saw any regularities in the building of it, either. Just keep your citizens very happy I suppose.
I spose the throne room is sort of dorky, but after dozens of games, I've evolved a sort of obsessive ritual -- frinstance, if I forget to choose the bearskins first, this is a very bad omen.
Sluggo, at least now I know that I don't have the only MGE CD with the messed up Throne room. My 2.42 Throne Room has the correct graphics and I've been considering either just swapping files or moving selected sections of the dll file, but my games not broke, if you don't count the incompetent HI leader for most of the civs and I'm afraid that without careful study first on my part it just might be if I start "improving" things. Therefore, I've just left it alone. I just have to remember to click on the back wall anyway. If you've tried you will have noticed that it does keep track of the number of clicks on that section, it just doesn't display a new graphic. I have suspected that the new MGE file might have the graphic in both locations instead of in just one like it should.
And the first item to improve for a very very good game is that rock that our humble servants left us to sit on. They could at least have given us the pedistal of Trvth instead of Peter's rock.
1. Rock, I need something decent to sit on.
2. Floor, because I'm using an old crappy monitor with no brighter setting available and I need to see my throne room
3. Wall, see item 2.
4. Either sets of pillars
5. Either sets of bearskins, most often the rugs to keep my toosies from getting all dirty and cold.
6. Any Remaining 1st round items.
7. Restart for second round.
1. Bearskins over throne -- totem animal
2. Bearskins on floor -- ditto
3. Back wall alcove (iteration 1) -- to get it out of the way
4. Back wall
5. Wall post thingies (what *is* that scaffold gizmo?}
6. Foreground posts
7. Floor -- cuz the second floor graphic's so ugly I save it till last
8. Floor -- to get a decent floor
9. Wall ...
at this point, throne room begins to look sivvilized.
But I swear by keeping my sacred rock until the game makes me change it.
Plus, you really oughtta be out playing with the other kids, not sitting in some comfy chair at home. MY leaders don' need no steenkin' throne. ()
