  • Weird post counts...

I've seen several threads that seem to have the wrong number of replies listed. Occasionally there'll be a page 2 when you display the thread, but the reply count is still one short of the required number.

I could understand if at high load the count doesn't get updated to display, but this one was many days since the last post. I posted a reply to this one see if it would update to the correct number of replies but it is still one short.

I assume it could be something to do with the post database change recently...

Often posts will not be registered on the main page, normally when there is a high load that causes the site to slow down. On such occasions the reply count and the last poster per the forum page is not the same as per the actual thread. It might be something to do with that?

It does have something to do with high server load...

The number of replies is the total number of posts - 1 (the first post isn't a reply, after all). I think that explains it.

What about phantom first posts? Do they get counted?

Sure they get counted as posts, but not in the replies column.
I'm pretty sure it's always been this way. A newly posted thread starts with 0 replies, but already has 1 post in it.

Yes, I know "replies" doesn't include the first post. There were 12 total posts, so eleven replies. The post before mine was a week old when I noticed the discrepancy, so obviously the server doesn't go back and redo reply counts on its own.

My post wasn't at a huge load time, so it should've redone the reply count, but it didn't.
