Well the odd thing is that the server won't be lagging at all... I'll click on a link, and instantly I'll get the "UUUU" screen. I refresh, and it either gives me the same thing but smaller, or the page (relatively) instantly pops up again.

The "UUUU"'s are just the server's way of telling you that although it's busy, it tried to complete your request but it was unable to do so (as opposed to a "server too busy" message forwarded by the forums database or a cryptic 'connection refused' screen).
Yeah, I have had the blank screen with just a string of U's at the top on many occasions. It is quite perculiar...Speaking of Erith:
