smilies play that part. if you were to go to Sid and say what you said with a deadpan, he'd probably hit you in the face and be right about it

Well obviously I wouldn't make such a crack in real life unless I knew the person well. And postulating such a level of familiarity I would alternate between making the joke (or similar jokes) with a smile and a laugh, or making the joke deadpan, depending on my mood.Comment
